Wen Chen returned to our Club discussing the history of Chinese Medicine and Medications on Friday, July 25th. Wen is from Pasadena, California and a staff scientist and member of the Caltech Women in BBE. Dr, Chen reads Mandrin and Chinese cultural articles. Chinese medicine is based on Dr. Brian Que (407 BC) which founded the four methods of diagnosis in Chinese medicine. The discussion centered on tea as a medicine before the 7th century. Food is listed as a medicine both cold and hot good. A Chinese doctor used lamb meat, ginger, farlic and onion and during the cold winter months, no one got sick. Another part of Dr. Chen's presentation was on the "Long History of Meditation specifically the Hua Tuo and Five Animal exercises. Martial arts and Tai Chi were part of the discussion. Body and Mind practice was part of the traditional Chinese culture. Dr. Chen last visited with us in May 2024 to review China's global impact. Click this link to read the recap of that presentation. |
