Congressional Update
Our special guest speaker on Friday was Congresswoman Susan DelBene who represents the 1st Congressional District which includes parts of King and Snohomish Counties. She serves on the House Ways and Means Committee and on the Select Revenue Measures and Trade Subcommittees.

Congresswoman DelBene was elected to her first term in 2012. After our meeting, she will be touring Lake Stevens with Mayor Brett Gailey and making a presentation of a check for the 20th Street and Main Street projects.
The Congresswoman will be returning to Washington DC on Monday and is hopeful that an agreement to solve the funding of government going forward. Other issues that she discussed were water quality and treatment, replacing aging water pipes, healthcare, and affordable housing as well as the Congressional budget.

The Congresswoman welcomed our Rotary Exchange Student, Pablo from Spain attending his first Lake Stevens Rotary meeting. Pablo arrived in Lake Stevens recently and will be spending the year here.
Paul Harris + 8
Randal Southam receives the Paul Harris + 8 pin from President Don Iverson at Friday's meeting. The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have made contributions in their name of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. The Paul Harris pin represents a $1,000 contribution to the Foundation. Each additional $1,000 contribution to the Rotary Foundation is recognized on the lapel pin.

Rotary established the recognition in 1957 to encourage and show appreciation for substantial contributions to what was then the Foundation’s only program.

The Last Lake Stevens Farmers Market 2023
The Rotary booth was up and running on a mild day in August as the last day of the Lake Stevens Farmers Market 2023 ends. We gave away a lot of bottled water and had many visitors voting on their favorite local non-profit. Don and Ilene are deep in conversation near the end of the first shift. The best part of the summer Lake Stevens Farmers Market is asking the community to determine their favorite local non-profit. Thanks, Rand for the suggestion.  Wonderful way to promote our Club and Rotary through conversations about local non-profits, Lake Stevens Rotary and the community.
