The organization opened a 60,000 sq. ft. warehouse as part of its Food Distribution Center which is located at Smokey Point. The structure of the organization is to help distribute food around the state at a moment's notice. Hunger prevention is one of their main goals, sharing food with all the Food Banks in Snohomish County is part of that goal. VOA has so many resources available to individuals and Kirk suggested that if we knew someone in need of help to reach out to their organization. Another resource is the Senior Centers in Sultan and the Carl Gibson Senior Center in Everett which are operated by the VOA. The organization has set up an Afghan welcome center and provides medical and dental services for these families. They work with these families when they get off the plane and this is the only resource they have available. Their Mission is to serve people and communities in need and create opportunities for people to experience the joy of serving others. To find out more information you can visit their website at www.voaww.org. Kirk is a 4th generation Monroe resident. One of his early mentors was Lake Stevens resident and benefactor Jim Mitchell. It was Jim Mitchell who helped Kirk win his election to the State Legislature. Kirk was elected and served in the state House of Representatives from 2001-2013 and in the state Senate from 2013-2017.
