This Week's Meeting
The featured speaker at this week's meeting is Elizabeth Michaud, Director of Membership at the Marysville Branch of the Snohomish County Y. If you are thinking "Didn't I just read this?" you would be almost correct. She was going to be with us two weeks ago, but, something changed between the time of this going to press and the morning of our Friday meeting. That's why our Meetings are always fun! Elizabeth was last with us in March of 2023. Snohomish County Y has been serving and strengthening our communities since 1901. Through the Y's three Areas of Impact--Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility--the impact goes far beyond just a place to go to or do things at (swim, exercise, hang out), but rather set solid foundations for youth and families to make impacts for a lifetime. Come and hear about the latest news about the Y!
The District 5050 Conference is coming up in early May. There's still room for you. This year's Conference is very family friendly. There will be bowling on Friday evening that your entire family can enjoy and a service project on Sunday at Camp Korey! Read all about it at this link >> Click this link to find out more and register.
The Club's Scholarship Committee received more than 20 applications and are busy reviewing them. They will be possibly be narrowing the pool down to determine who they would like to interview later this month. We will be presenting the scholarships at our regular meeting on May 24th at the School District's Educational Service Center in the same room we hold our regular weekly meetings! This is one of the premier events of Lake Stevens Rotary's year.
The link to our YouTube Channel is now available on our website and our weekly bulletins. You can view recent online meetings. If you watch any of them, you can count it as a makeup. Just let our Secretary, Gary O'Rielly know.
State of the City - Mayor Brett Gailey
On Friday, April 12th, Mayor Brett Gailey updated the Club on the State of the City, an annual address each year about this time. The Mayor gave a warm shout out to Secretary of State Steve Hobbs about providing funding for the Hwy.9 and Hwy 204/N Davies Rd/Vernon Rd Roundabouts project when he was in the Senate.
Many of the benefits in Lake Stevens this past year, included the ribbon cutting ceremony and the opening of the new Lake Stevens Community Food Bank which is home to the Lake Stevens Resource Center as well. The addition of the water tower at North Cove Park by local artist, the remodeling of Sunset Beach and the addition of a new swim dock to mention a few outdoor recreation opportunities.
Club members were joined by other members of the community and area Rotary Clubs. The Mayor reviewed the population in 2008 and current, along with a breakdown of our property taxes, the many accomplishments of the city staff in many of the departments, park re-alignment, upcoming downtown construction and the development of a City Hall near the Police Headquarters. So much to be proud of and so many more projects on the City's agenda.
