On Friday, June 21st, Lake Stevens Rotary held their annual installation banquet at the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank. The evening was filled with a Hawaiian theme filled with music and dancing. Our two wonderful Hawaiian members Amelia Mimura and Yohana Tobey started the evening off with Hawaiian music and dance as members arrive for the evening festivities. Joining our members with Hawaiian music was Jack who accompanied Amelia (Auntie) and Yohana during the opening ceremonies. Each year the outgoing President gives awards to some of the Club members and this year was no different. Rand Southam was named the Rotarian of the Year by President Don Iverson for upholding the principles of Rotary and dedication to enhancing our Club's public image. Rotary Citizens of the Year was awarded to Chris Jacobson and Rachele Horner, who were in Eugene, Oregon for a regatta competition but listened on their cellphone as they were recognized for their leadership and involvement in cherished community organizations. They bring energy and enthusiasm to the community, such as Aquafest and the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank and so much more. President Don Iverson bestowed Gary O'Rielly with the Pinnacle of Service Award, Amy Lewandowski with the Rising Star Award, Reshal Ploeger with the Spirit of Service Award and Amelia Mimura with the Diamond Jewel Award. Special recognition was awarded to Joyce Bell, a founding member of our Club and Loren Hole who joined shortly after our club was formed in 1991. Both received the Distinguished Service Award. Receiving the Viking Leadership Awards were Lance Morehouse, Jak Thornton, Laurie Westover and Chris Vallo. Jak and Laurie were recognized for Collaboration to Solve Problems and Lance and Chris for Scouts and Youth activities. Special recognition was given to Pablo Portabales Martinez, our Rotary Exchange Student from Spain by President Don Iverson, Past President Chris Vallo and Rand Southam, Chair of our Public Image Committee. |
