This week's meeting will have the usual fun that that our Club has come to be known for. The quick reports from Board Members, fines & happy bucks followed by a program. It's a surprise so come prepared.

On the calendar for the next several days are a couple of important events. On Saturday there is a Court of Honor for Grace W. a member of our Scouts BSA Troop. She has earned the coveted Eagle Scout Award. We would love to have a handful of Rotarians join the Troop to celebrate. The event starts at 11 am not too far from Lake Stevens. Contact Chris Vallo or James Monroe for details.

The Club's Board will be meeting on Tuesday at the Lake Stevens Brewery. This will be in conjunction with this month's Fireside. All members are welcome.

Also, don't forget to sign up for the District Assembly coming up on April 13th. Our Club pays for five people to participate whether or not we send people or not. The Assembly is an excellent training opportunity for Rotarians of all experiences. This is for New Club Officers, Rotarians who want to network, develop relations with other Rotarians, learn from other Rotarians in our District, and newer Rotarians who would like to better understand the value and meaning of Rotary. Contact President Don and let him know you're interested.

H.O.M.E. Helping Our Miniature Equines

Our guest speaker on Friday, March 1st was Barbara Gordon one of the founders of Helping Our Miniature Equines (H.O.M.E.) with a focus on rescuing and serving the miniature equine community. The first home rescue arrived on a cold, rainy, early morning of January 28, 2021. Many of these miniature equines are unwanted, neglected, abused and no longer cared for.

Demand is greater than supply in the Pacific Northwest. Mini horses can live to 30, 35 and 40 years old and mini donkeys can live 40-50 years. To date, Barb and Lori have brought in over 107 animals to date.

They focus on the whole animal. Each of their animals receives all necessary physical and mental services needed including veterinary, dental, farrier, nutritional, bodywork, training and socialization. They ensure excellent lifetime homes for each animal they take in and the responsibility does not end when they are adopted into a new home. Careful screening of applicants and lifetime commitment to each animal including follow up check in every 3-5 months. Barbara showed pictures of Bandit, Grandma Bettie, Napoleon and Spitfire with a bit of information on each equine.

Youth Adventures in Leadership (YAIL)

Youth Adventures in Leadership (YAIL) is open to participants ages 15-17 and is held annually at Alexandra, a neighborhood house in Surrey BC Canada. On Friday, March 1st, Past President Chris Vallo drove our two sponsored candidates, Diego and Pablo to Surrey, BC. Diego and Pablo spent the weekend to become well-rounded individuals with increased perspective and enthusiasm for growth, who can make informed decisions through their leadership journey. Just a few years ago, three of our sponsored candidates came home and started the Interact Club at Lake Stevens High School which has flourished ever since with 30-60 members attending meetings each Wednesday during the school year.

Interact is a service club for youth ages 14-18. The name is a combination of the words international and action. We join Clubs in over 120 countries around the world. The global youth network is dedicated to community and international service. Every Interact Club project, great or small, has a lasting impact on society worldwide.

The School Year has started up and so have our Club Meetings! Contact Mrs. Odegaard for more information!

Our regular Rotary Club Meetings are at the Lake Stevens School District Educational Service Center lower level Community Room located at 12309 22nd St NE. We start at 7:30 am. Click here for the online link . There will not be any breakfast served. However, coffee will be available. Visitors are always welcome.
