This Week's Meeting
This week's program includes a presentation by Tony Barnett who will tell us about the school district's Student Exchange Program.

Don't forget about the Board Meeting this week--Thursday, 5:30 pm at the Rewis Insurance Agency Office across the street from the LSSD ESC. All members are invited. After all, this is your Club.

It is that time of the year, when our semi-annual dues will be billed. $150 with an optional $50 that goes directly to the Rotary Foundation.

The link to our YouTube Channel is now available on our website and our weekly bulletins. You can view recent online meetings. If you watch any of them, you can count it as a makeup. Just let our Secretary, Gary O'Rielly know.

Thank you to all of our sponsors this year. They are listed below. When you patronize them make sure to mention that you are a Lake Stevens Rotarian!

Down to Earth Community Gardens
Our guest speaker for Friday, January 13th was Terry Bockovich who spoke about the Down to Earh program she is involved with at this time. According to Terry there are 1,094 community gardens in the state since the beginning of the Eagle Ridge Community Garden. Working on a transition program at Mt. Pilchuck with new growing space and with the Lake Stevens Community Resource Center. Partnering with Steve Allen, who will be adding murals to each of the projects. Currently trying to raise money for his projects.

Eagle Ridge has access to water and tools on a year-around basis. Working with 1,000 volunteers each year through "Plant a Row" programs. There are 78 beds at Eagle Ridge according to Terry. Terry is working with other groups including the Snohomish County Conservation District and East/West Food Rescue. Terry is in schools a lot this time of the year and at Highland Elementary in the 5th Grade Class every Thursday. There are seed libraries through the Everett Library and likely at the Lake Stevens Library soon.
Mascot
In my time in Lake Stevens, we had the duck, now the Vikings and the newest is Fred the Dragon. Fred was extremely popular on Halloween night at the Mill in downtown Lake Stevens when the community celebrated.

The most popular character at the Halloween celebration with families taking pictures of their children in the arms around Fred the Dragon. Gary O'Rielly, Club Secretary and Chris Vallo, Club President presented a certificate and badge to Fred the Dragon's co-owner, Laurie Westover.
