DJ Lockwood, Athletic Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Stevens, was our guest speaker on Friday, February 25th. DJ moved to Arlington when he was 6 years old. The family enrolled him in the Boys & Girls Club. After Covid affected his 8-year-old business, he started a new career as the Athletic Director of the Boys & Girls Club. Props included a football and basketball for a drill that was interrupted by Kevin O'Brien Rock Pocket Science game. Showed new basketball uniforms. Lake Stevens residence for the past five years. Married with three children. After working at UPS in Redmond, followed by long drives, and started looking for something else to do. A month later, the position at the Boys & Girls Club was available and he started his career as the Athletic Director. DJ tells his coaches that the kids do not remember wins and losses, but they do remember their great coaches. The current building was donated to the Club in 2004. There are 62 coaches and over 600 kids involved. Biggest sports program in Snohomish County. There are 196 background check volunteers and 22 minor background checked volunteers with lots of community involvement. Kendra is one of his coaches. Reliant on the School District to partner with the use of gym space with practices from 5-8 pm from Monday to Friday. Feedback from parents has been incredibly positive. Largest volleyball and flag football once again in Snohomish County. Working on new uniforms for each team. The Boys & Girls Club is a partnership with the community. No program is successful without the involvement of coaches, parents, and kids. Running the program out of three gyms. |
