The featured speaker at this week's meeting is Sheriff Adam Fortney. He will give an update about the Sheriff's Department and how the Department has adapted to all of the changes in state law regarding policing.

State of the City Update

Mayor Brett Gailey presented his detailed “State of the City” address during the April 14 meeting. Lake Stevens has now exceeded 40,000 residents yet remains one of the safest towns in Washington from a crime standpoint. The city is working hard to keep up with this growth while maintaining the environment we all enjoy. Available single-family residential lots are fully developed so more carefully planned multifamily projects are coming including one downtown.

A lot of good things happened around town last year and more are coming. Brett discussed many of our most-loved community events that are back strong including Aquafest, the Farmers Market, Movies in the Park, Shakespeare in the Park and more. He reviewed many new developments including Costco, the new Food Bank, Mill Spur completion, and changes coming in the industrial zone.

Regarding the infrastructure, Brett discussed the SR 9 roundabout projects, more sidewalks (especially near schools), street/sidewalk improvements planned for 91^st north and south of SR 204, as well as new walking trails near 20^th St SE and under the power lines toward Marysville.

Club Elections

Club elections for the Board and the Foundation were emailed this past week with a deadline of Thursday, April 13th with candidates listed to all club members asking for their vote on the two ballots. The results are in.

Voting for year 23/24 Club and Foundation Board members took place during the April 14, 2023, regular meeting, with attendees exceeding the minimum required for quorum. All candidates nominated by the Board were unanimously voted in. Most candidates are continuing present service so our board will “hit the ground running” this summer!
