This week's program includes a presentation by Scott Kelly, Vice President of Development and Rich Good, Interim Scout Executive of the Mount Baker Council, Scouting America. They will give us a report about how Scouting is doing in our region and, more specifically, how we can help with the Mission of Scouting which is to prepare young people to make moral and ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. This is good timing because at next week's meeting we will hear from our own Scout Troop!
The Memorial Service for Joyce Bell is on Saturday, February 15th, 2:00 pm at St. John's Episcopal Church in Snohomish. The next day, February 16th there will be a Community Reception at the Lake Stevens Senior Center at 1 pm.
Don't forget to register for the 2025 District Conference: Abracadabra - The Magic of Rotary. The Conference will be at the Tulalip Resort and start in about three and a half months.

Amy Lewandowski and Sam Toft, a third-generation YMCA employee, were our speakers on Friday, January 31st. Amy is a member of our Club and deeply involved in fundraising for the Y. Sam is the Youth Director of the YMCA of Snohomish County. The Y is about youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. In 2024, Youth Development served 9,600 youth throughout the county. Their goal for 2025 is to have 550 volunteer coaches for 2025.
Sam said that the Y recently announced a new chapter for the YMCA of Snohomish County. Earlier this month, Whidbey Island's historic Camp Casey became the YMCA Camp Casey. This incredible 75-acre waterfront property was acquired from Seattle Pacific University. The new addition to the Y will serve as a place for their community to gather, grow, and explore, supporting their shared vision of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Y offers so many programs for Youth and an overnight camp at YMCA Camp Casey is one of them. Check their website for more information.

The coalition started in 2023 and is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization—their vision: A community that supports recovery in all its forms. Their mission: Advocate and support meaningful actions that promote connection, equity, and advocacy.

She was chair of the board of governors of the University of Windsor and chair of the Windsor-Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce. She has been recognized for her service with the YMCA Peace Medallion, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, and Wayne State University’s Peacemaker of the Year Award, a first for a Canadian. Jones holds a Doctor of Laws (LL.D.) She has served Rotary as RI vice president, foundation trustee, director, training leader, committee chair, moderator, and district governor. She played a lead role in Rotary’s rebranding effort by serving as chair of the Strengthening Rotary’s Advisory Group. She is the co-chair of the End Polio Now Countdown to History Campaign Committee, which aims to raise $150 million for polio eradication efforts.
Ramesh Ferris, a Canadian polio survivor (originally from India) and a global advocate in the fight against polio. He has worked with Global Citizen, Rotary International, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. He has shared our Rotary End polio message with countless heads of state and other world leaders. In 2008 Ramesh hand-cycled 7140kms over 6months from Victoria, BC to Cape Spear, NL in program called Cycle to Walk to raise funds and awareness for polio eradication, education, and rehabilitation.
Gwen Jones is the creator and producer of the I’m A Rotarian podcast and Greeting from America on Rotary Radio UK. She is a veteran producer, radio personality, voiceover artist, singer, and actor with 30+ years of experience in communication arts. Established in October 2019, the IAR podcast has a growing international audience of thousands of listeners across the world that is growing everyday. The goal of the IAR podcast is to introduce the extraordinary people who call themselves Rotarians to the world, to share the incredible work they are doing as People of Action, and to foster stronger connections and friendships between fellow Rotarians. Interact is a service club for youth ages 14-18. The name is a combination of the words international and action. We join Clubs in over 120 countries around the world. The global youth network is dedicated to community and international service. Every Interact Club project, great or small, has a lasting impact on society worldwide.
