Rotary District 5280 traditionally has a "Rotarians at Work Day" in April where we all get together and enjoy the opportunity to be of service and enjoy fellowship among our fellow Rotarians. Just like last year, we are unable to have an in-person project. This year, however, we collectively have the unique opportunity to help the neediest in our respective communities by participating in efforts to secure an appointment for the life-changing COVID vaccination at a place and time that is convenient. https://rotary5280.org/event/covid-vaccine-appointment-volunteer-opportunity/ |

Hasini is a 7th grader who first got introduced to Rotary as a first-grader, seeing her dad go to Club meetings and activities. She often went along and participated. Over the years, she has been learning what Rotary is and is truly amazed by how Rotary contributes to communities. She has participated in several community activities with the Plymouth Rotary Club in Minnesota and has been involved in Rotary by planting trees in the community, fundraising by doing solo dance performances, selling tickets during annual parades, etc. Hasini is very interested in learning what other Rotary Clubs do, and she would like to interview the club to learn more about our Primary Service Projects. She will be interviewing our club during the meeting. |

Please join the Rotary Club of Carson Gardena Dominguez on Saturday, June 26th to demote Kate Nutting to Immediate Past Present and welcome the new slate of officers for the 2021-2022 Rotary year. We will also recognize last year's demotion of Roger Casas who missed out on a demotion party due to the pandemic. With COVID-19 cases dramatically declining, we hope that an indoor and outdoor celebration will provide a safe and welcoming environment for us to join in Rotary fellowship. Demotion is a time when we celebrate the ending of the Club year and our Club President's term of service. This past year has certainly been different and challenging but we have never given up on our Rotary spirit. COVID-19 has required us to quarantine and conduct our Rotary meetings virtually. Over this past year, Zoom has become our regular method of seeing one another. Our Club service projects have allowed some in-person contact with the requisite social distancing. Through it all, our members have worked hard to maintain our service to the community. We have helped many families and individuals though our Operation Gobble, Operation Santa, Rotary Community Hand Sanitizer Project, Scholarship Program and other Rotary activities. As Rotarians, we need to celebrate our accomplishments and recognize our officers and members for their dedication. As we look ahead to the next Rotary year, we also need to get excited about new opportunities for service and ways that we can work together for a brighter future. This is what hope if built upon. Now more than ever we need to stay connected and keep our Rotary bonds of friendship strong. We welcome you and a guest to our home so that we can celebrate. Date: JUNE 26, 2021 Time: 5:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. What to Bring: APPETIZER, SIDE DISH OR DESSERT A LIBATION TO SHARE (optional) BBQ Dinner: $10.00 per person Location: Sheri's Home, Rolling Hills Estates RSVP: Please respond by June 21st |

How High Speed Rail Could Be Transformative for the Country
Jul. 14, 2021 12:30 p.m.
Rick Harnish co-founded the High Speed Rail Alliance in 1993 with a passion for revitalizing the region he grew up in, lives in, and loves. The Alliance builds the political will for systemic change by advocating for integrated rail and transit networks connected by 200+ mph high-speed lines. By connecting cities, towns and airports, the high-speed trains will dramatically expand economic opportunities and slash carbon emissions. A native of the Chicago area, Harnish has been MHSRA’s executive director since 2001. His perspective on trains and transportation policy has appeared in Bloomberg, the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Politico, Governing, the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Magazine, Crain’s Chicago and many other publications, in addition to various NPR programs. He has achieved notable successes and progress in MHSRA’s three focus areas: advocacy, education, and research. Harnish’s work is informed by his strong commitment to researching and learning from global best practices. He has ridden high-speed trains—often in the context of leading small groups—in Belgium, China, England, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, and Turkey, and he draws on a global network of colleagues with expertise in trains and transportation policy. |
