The Rotary Club of Cary-Grove was pleased to present a check in the amount of $2,000.00 to the Friends of the Fox River Grove Library. Carol Dolan was on hand to accept the check on their behalf. Carol informed the membership that they are continuing their current youth programs and will be adding a new one. The new program covers the children from 3 to Kindergarten age, and sets a target of reading 1,000 books before they enter Kindergarten. Progress for each child will be individually kept in a log and will be in 100-book increments. Readers will receive a Certificate of Completion and a final prize--yet be determined.
The 2018 Youth Assembly, will be held on Saturday, November 10th at Forest View Education Center in Arlington Heights. Tiffany Au, a graduate of Cary-Grove HS and a Decker Scholarship Recipient, will be one of the guest speakers at this event.

I overcame childhood trauma from sexual assault, depression, emotional abuse, poverty, first generational living, suicide and pressure of raising my siblings, by turning my focus to helping others. I have traveled on a local and global basis to work with various underserved communities to rebuild homes, create sustainable youth programs, and lead new projects that strengthened individual's understanding of self-awareness and universal love."
Tiffany Au and Caleb Remington turned their wedding into an experiential charitable Gala. The Greatest Wedding Ever Donated (www.thegwed.com) set an objective to raise $500,000 for five organizations serving mental health, rare disease, research, education, and low-income families. While a student at Cary Grove High School, Tiffany was president of the Interact Club and attended RYLA multiple times.
The Board has approved the promotion of a Paul Harris Match Program to members in good standing of the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove:
Any member that has not yet achieved their first Paul Harris Fellow may make a cash donation up to $500, and the club will match two-to-one towards his/her first Paul Harris Fellow.
Any member who is already a Paul Harris Fellow may make a cash donation up to $500, and the club will match one-to-one towards his/her next Paul Harris level.
Any member who is already a Paul Harris Fellow may make a cash donation up to $500, and the club will match one-to-one towards making another Non-Rotarian a Paul Harris Fellow.
The program will run from 7/1/18 thru 11/08/18. Checks should be made payable to “The Cary-Grove Rotary Charitable Fund” and delivered to Linda Trexler along with the printed name of the individual, address and relationship to the Rotarian requesting the match (e.g. Spouse, Son/Daughter, Grandchild, Friend, etc.). A theater usher notices a man stretched across three seats. He walks over and whispers, "Sorry sir, but you're allowed only one seat." The man moans but doesn't budge. "Sir, if you don't move, I'll have to call the manager," says the usher. Again the man moans but stays put. The usher returns with the manager who also asks him to move without success. Finally they call a cop. "All right, buddy," says the cop. "What's your name?" "Dave," mumbles the man. "Where you from, Dave?" asks the cop. The man whispers, "The balcony."

Our guest speaker at last week's meeting was Brett Weiss of the Weiss scholarship Foundation. Brett is a member of the Rotary Club of Naperville. Since 2009, Brett has traveled six times to Kenya in pursuit of following his dream for combating poverty in the village of Dago. Most of his efforts have been directed toward improving the education level of the children that live there. Dago is a tiny community of 3,000 people with an average family income of less than $2 per day. In Kenyan, the average education is only four years. Only 20% of the children actually go to High School.
To combat this, Brett established The Weiss Scholarship Foundation in 2011. The goal of this foundation is to have a positive impact on all of the youth members in Dago and the Kenya area. By providing a guaranteed source of income for students to continue their education through High School, Brett's hope is that the economic & health conditions of the area will improve. Since the Foundation was started, 42 full four year scholarships have be issued. Eleven students have graduated from High School and four have gone on to University.

Tiffany is a graduate of Cary-Grove High School and is a past recipient of the Decker Scholarship awarded by the Rotary Club of Cary-Grove. Her website highlights her upcoming wedding to Caleb Remington and talks about the work they are doing together to raise funds and awareness for the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.
