Last week Jeff Kaplan from the Alzheimer's Association told us about the September 14th Walk to End Alzheimer's. Please see below for details and Jeff's contact information if you are interested.
Our speaker was Ed Connelly, a Board member from Northwest Compass, an agency that impacts the lives of low-income, homeless and unstably housed by connecting them to housing options, providing resources, assistance and support, stabilizing their crisis and empowering them to create a stable and sustainable future. Northwest Compass has 5 ½ case managers and served 4,000 households a year, and in Buffalo Grove they served 140 households. They provide housing assistance, career coaching, money management classes, legal assistance, life skill classes and have a food pantry. Our club gave the Bill Reid Community Service Award posthumously to Rick Drazner at the Buffalo Grove Park District's National Night Out. Rick's family was in attendance, as well as many club members. A $500 donation will be made to the Rotary Foundation in Rick's name, and his family designated the other $500 for the Broadway Buddies program at the Park District. Our club also had a booth at National Night Out to raise awareness about Rotary and the youth exchange program. Thank you to Jing and all who helped out at at the booth.
Our treasurer, Brian, went through the process of setting up Amazon Smile for the Rotary Foundation. Here is the link if you want to check it out: https://smile.amazon.com/ch/36-3653525
It's a great way to support our Foundation any time you are ordering from Amazon.
