Last week our District Governor, Suzanne Gibson, from the Barrington Breakfast Club, visited our club.  Thanks, Deb Smith, for a summary of what Suzanne discussed:
  • She and her husband, Mark were the first couple to join the Barrington Breakfast Club in 2008
  • They are passionate about International service and have been to Guatemala 12 to 15 times with their church. They plan to go to Guatemala with our team next year.
  • They have been on two friendship exchanges – to South Africa and Taiwan.
  • She feels that Rotary connects resources with people who need them. The slogan on the pin this year is: “Rotary Connects the World” .
  • She encourages clubs to connect and collaborate on projects.  Clubs partnering = more fun and collaboration.
  • She an her husband are going to Ride to End Polio in Tucson in November. Over 250 Rotarians are riding.  Here is the link for more information:
  • Suzanne mentioned several points from Rotary’s Vision Statement: “Rotary’s Strategic Priorities and Objectives –
    • Increase Our Impact
    • Expand Our Reach
    • Enhance Participant Engagement”
  • November of 2019 will be the 75th anniversary of the signing of the UN Charter. There will be a celebration in New York. And there will be 4 peace conferences around the world.
  • Our District Conference will be April 24 and 25 at the Hyatt Regency in Schaumberg. It will be a dual District conference with 6420 and 6440. It will be a Friday noon to Saturday night event. Suzanne encourage all of us to attend some of the conference.
One of our two academic scholarship winners, Zachery Kim, and his mom attended our meeting.  Zach attended Stevenson High School and plans to attend Northwestern University in pre-med in the fall.  He has excellent grades, was captain of the Varsity Tennis Team and was involved with numerous extracurricular activities.  Congratulations Zach!
