Rotary Membership

President Mike introduced past District Governor Sue Cook, from the Penetang Club.
She regretted the video portion of her presentation was unavailable. She thanked the Club for the invitation. Rotary is the oldest service club and membership is an honour. She had decided she wanted to join in 1979 when she was an exchange student but, of course, membership was not open to women back then - that came in 1987. Even then it took someone to ask her to join. Her point was that as someone with an interest, she still had to be asked. She suggested there were probably lots of people just waiting to be asked. For the good of the Club, ask someone.
Rotary is now a huge multinational organization with the four avenues of service - International, Community, Vocational, and Club Service. It promotes the community and fellowship - the fellowship of the small community that Paul Harris came from and that he missed in Chicago.
Rotary has much to be proud of, especially the Polio Plus campaing, now 99% successful. This unique project was started in 1985 by the Club alone, though lots of other organizations have assisted since. Rotary has worked on UNESCO, has helped with the Easter Seals Campaign and etc.
Sue said Midland has been a very effective club and it would be a good exercise for members to stop and thing about what would not be here if not for the Club's efforts. The trail, the bandshell, the contributions to the hospital, Wendat, and etc. She encouraged the guests to consider making a commitment to the Club and to the Community.
