Britt had the distinct pleasure of introducing local entertainer and composer Marlon Gibbons. Marlon has been extremely busy and successful as an independent composer from his tiny home studio. Marlon joined us, not just to tell us what he is doing now, but how did he get there and how did he get to work with big production houses,...
Marlon's family background was from the east coast of Canada and he came by his love of instruments naturally but not formally(not by written instead by ear). When he finished high-school, he traveled to Hamilton to study music production and technologies. After graduating, and coming home 2000-2003, the Internet had revolutionized how music could be distributed and shared with an ever growing on-line audience. Suddenly you could have connections and relationships all over the world and good things began to happen. In 2005 PS2, one of the worlds leading gaming consoles, used Marlon's music for a video game. This was just the beginning and things began to take off. With a young family and a full-time job it was not a healthy nor happy situation. As a family they decided to drop the Deluxe/Nebs graphic design job and do composing and production full-time!! After a year Marlon discovered that it takes a lot to work on your own and that the weeks are not limited by hours, but rather by deadlines. The flexibility and being able to do what you love has been incredible for both his family and his creativity. Marlon treated us to some samples of his work Drunken Christmas October Pumpkin or something. It sounded sloppy and German, not a common thread. It was a pleasure to find out more about Marlon's work and creativity.
