Grande Cache

Doug Ewan introduced two students - one of whom was related to him - and two teachers; representatives of the group who took part in the exchange.
The students took turns thanking Rotary for the chance to experience something so different from their usual experience. They were both thrilled to see a different part of the country, to meet new people and to make terrific friendships. They both felt had been a great learning and growing experience. The two groups went out to a camp near Grande Cache and had, over a couple of days, really grown together. Early doubts about enjoying it or fitting in were quickly dispatched.
The teachers offered their thanks to Rotary for the several sponsorships over the years. Students from MSS have gone to BC, Nunavut and Alberta. It is a terrific opportunity for the students and they bring a lot back to the classroom. It may take a while but they feel that students will realize later how much it meant to them and how important support from Rotary was and they will grow into helping others to similar experiences.
The money Rotary contributes goes to meeting the expenses of showing the students from Grande Cache around - taking them to Niagara Falls, for instance. We were shown a slide presentation of the students from here enjoying their time in Alberta and some of the wonderful scenery they saw. It looked like they had a good time.
