District Conference

President Jim introduced Doug Fairhall, the District Governor of District 7010, which runs north as far as Kapuskasing and includes 45 clubs.
Doug brought news of the District Conference, which will be held this year at the Deerhurst Inn October 13 - 16. The Conference was last held in Muskoka in 1994.
The host Clubs have been working on this for 18 months already. Doug showed a video that introduced the beauty and variety of the area and promoted the many attractions and activities available there.
The 5 Clubs of the Muskoka region invited all members to 'Celebrate the Past and Embrace the Future' with them.
Thursday will be a Fun Day, allowing guests to take advantage of the golf courses, the lakes, to enjoy the fall colours.
Friday, though, starts early. There will be four speakers over the weekend. Rachel Thibodeau, an Associate Professor of Occupational Therapy will speak on the Rehabilitation of the Victims of Conflict. Alvin Law, a thalidomide baby who uses his feet to drive, cook, work, etc. will title his talk, No Such Word As Can't. Peter Jensen, a sports psychologist at Queens will relate his coaching experience to the business executive's world. And the founder of Ryan's Well Foundation, who started raising money at the age of 6 to help drill a well in Africa, will discuss his work. When he visited the village where his first well was brought in he made friends with a young boy there. This boy was later kidnapped by guerillas, managed to escape, and has now been adopted by Ryan's family.
Cameron White spoke briefly about attempts to raise funds to defray expenses so individual registration costs could be kept low. His committee has been approaching companies who do work across the region, such as Bell and the banks, and has met with some success. Wal-Mart was not interested. He asked members to consider other companies that might be prepared to assist.
Doug took the mic again to encourage members to book the weekend. There will be hospitality programs on Friday night and the Governor's Ball on Saturday with entertainment and dancing after.
Ken Macdonald thanked Doug for coming, for the work his committee was doing and said he was looking forward to the hospitality of Muskoka.
