The Community Services Committee has contributed to a wheelchair at PGH, the Response Team, the Salvation Army, Drayton Entertainment, St. Vincent de Paul, Rosewood, the Food Drive, Canada Day celebrations, the Party on the Dock, MARC, Rotary House, Community Link and Able Sail.

The Community Services Committee has contributed to a wheelchair at PGH, the Response Team, the Salvation Army, Drayton Entertainment, St. Vincent de Paul, Rosewood, the Food Drive, Canada Day celebrations, the Party on the Dock, MARC, Rotary House, Community Link and Able Sail.
Lois reported that the well project in Tblisi is finally going ahead and is budgeted at $13,750.00, though delays may have seen some rise in costs. The International Services Committee has also contributed to Charlotte, the Medical Mission, Shirley Trudeau's trips, the Wheelchair Foundation, a Shelter Box, the Sierra Leone Calendars, World Community Service blankets, Polio Plus Partners, Water Filters, the orphanage in Georgia, and Polio Plus. The Committee still has $14,000.00 and, if Ron doesn't claim it, they are looking at an ambulance project in Brazil.
Terri said the Club Services Committee had hosted a fun and successful bowling evening. The Committee is planning for President's Night but is wondering if the date will ever be decided on. They are working on decorations and contests for the Party on the Dock and are planning a Muskrat Mash Bash to celebrate the completion of the Muskrat Boardwalk.
Rod said he'd been doing a makeup at Bradford the previous evening and a club in a town about Midland's size, that used to have about as many members, now has only 13. While it is true that many service clubs are suffering declining memberships, Midland is showing that this trend can be contested. Rod said the Membership Committee's 'potential member evening' had been successful and they are planning another event in May with invitations to individuals going out. Any one who has a name should give it to Rod. Leaves of absence had been applied only to long standing members but it seems the rules have been relaxed over the years and the Committee is preparing a policy for Club consideration. Joyce added that 2 members have resigned and 6 have joined this year. Two of them are on leave, though, due to business pressures.
Jim has been trying to get the press more engaged. He has been sending pictures and news releases but they haven't been picking them up the way he'd like. He has been looking at a special insert in one of the papers in May, but there are cost considerations.
Janice reported that a young man named Cornelius will be coming from Germany as the next inbound exchange student. Golf and snowboarding are favourite activities. Please consider being a host family. Cassie Rastin is going to Denmark.
The Committee is trying to arrange another Vocational visit in May, RYLA is this weekend, the same as PETS, unfortunately. But 49 students from across the District are involved and 7 are coming back as junior leaders. Janice read a couple of excerpts from their letters of application which spoke to the value of the program. She said it was very difficult to choose the successful candidates.
Rob took the opportunity to comment that in his visits to Clubs in Australia and New Zealand it became apparent that Midland is doing a lot - as much or more as comparable clubs - and he is glad to be a part of it. He thinks the Club should be proud and he congratulated the Board on its work.
