Club Assembly 03/09
Patrick said the Bingo Fund is doing well and the final few accounts on the Auction will be closed soon and this year we cleared over $30,000.00. He plans to have the next bills out next week.
Neil said the International Committee will be bringing several suggestions for projects to the Club soon, including a well in South Africa and the donation of a wood burning oven to the Tblisi orphanage, and there will be votes on Polio and Polio Plus donations. April is Polio Plus Awareness.
Sandie said the next function will be a College of Knowledge on April 30 and there will be a celebration of Michelle's year to follow. Jamie, as Membership, is working on the College with Sandie and Joyce.
Dwayne asked if people would email pictures of events or activities and he would try to get some coverage.
Ron reported the Community Committee in concentrating on getting money to those who really need it in this difficult time. He said the Committee is continually getting requests from agencies that we have donated to before - part of their annual fund raising - and asked the Club to consider whether we should be giving to what is, essentially, operating requests or whether we should be more a prime the pump giver or an emergency response funder. Fred Hacker said that historically the Club has used its money as seed money, not operating. Steve said we will probably be getting lots of requests over the next year and it would be good to establish guidelines.
There was a brief discussion about using the Rotary sign at the firehall to promote community events but it was felt that there would be overwhelming demand and perhaps some awkwardness if some agencies got space and others did not and also there was a sense that a little lightheartedness would not be out of place, so it was agreed to leave it as is.
Alison reported for Vocational that our inbound student from Denmark will be arriving in August and please talk to her about hosting. The outbound orientation will be in North Bay this weekend. Adventures in Tourism is in two months and one student is going to RYLA in April. Thanks to Maureen and Sue for keeping the Student of the Month going.
