Janice introduced Bob as a boss who is extremely supportive, who gives people a lot of latitude in their work and who is an upstanding citizen and a great addition to the Club.

Bob said his first impulse through life has been to pursue fun and laughter.  He grew up in North York - a suburban mixture of Wayne's World and Cheech and Chong.  He played in a band - still does - but finds that what they played then and considered progressive rock has evolved now into back ground music for beer commercials.  He still plays at the odd charity event.
He got into community work unknowingly.  His first effort was when a bunch of buddies at a friend's cottage decided to clean up a park so they could play ball.  He tried cubs and scouts but noted a distinct lack of girls at the meetings and dropped out.

Bob's professional life has revolved around serving.  He started as a camp counsellor, went into recreation at Centennial College and worked in a variety of jobs and places, including a stint in Calgary.  But he thought he knew more people in Ontario, had more contacts and would have more fun so he came back and started with the North York Y in the late 80's.  He held most positions there - Youth Co-ordinator, Fitness Supervisor etc.
In 2005 John Henderson told him about the position in Midland and encouraged him to apply.  After working here for a while he moved to Barrie to be closer to the job.
Bob has a brother in B.C. and a father in Newmarket.  Having no kids of his own, he's single, Bob gets real fulfillment from working with the young.
His main hobbies are music and cycling.  He and his brother go on bike tours; they've done Newfoundland and Ireland and are planning one in Scotland for 2009.  As he gets older though he's starting to look forward to 'supported tours' that take your baggage ahead rather than have to pedal it up and down the hills himself.
His brother is always up for something and presented Bob, for his 40th birthday, with a waiver form so they could go and jump out of a plane.
Bob says the renovation at the Y is complete and that it's great.  Even though the footprint is the same it is essentially a new facility and he thinks it meets the needs of the community.  Now Janice is improving the sales department and working on strategies for attracting new members.
Ralph offered the thanks of the Club to Bob for his talk and he said he knew Bob was giving the Y a good exposure in the Community.  He mentioned that perhaps Bob could speak a little more about the facility.
Bob said that all Club members were welcome to drop by and check it out and that he and Janice have been working on making the Y a destination for a Vocational Tour.
