Vocational - Mal Price
Encourage members of the club to contribute ideas and suggestions to Committee Chairpersons throughout the Rotary year.
Deakin/Tafe Awards – Last year donated to indigenous program. This year will explore that again and invite the CEO of TAFE as a guest speaker and try to get TAFE more involved in the Deakin/Tafe Awards.
Science Engineering Challenge – Telstra has pledged their sponsorship again. It is pleasing to see kids wanting to make a difference through Science and Engineering.
Rural/Urban Nights – Supporting rural communities through community events at local community halls.
Work Place Visits – Workplace visits help us to get out and about in the community and getting to know what is happening in our community.
Pride of Workmanship Awards – Looking to initiate this again this year. Challenge the club members to put forward names and ideas for this Award.
Challenge Committee Directors and Members to consider how we might fundraise to facilitate the activities of these clubs rather than just relying on the Club budget to fund activities.
Community Service – Terry O’Neill
Oxfam Walk – Club representative John Nisbet. It would be great to have others involved in this. Speak to John if you are interested.
Show Gates – Malcolm Price has offered to take responsibility for this event this year. There will be a meeting with the show committee in the coming week.
Port Fiary Folk Festival – David Brown has co-ordinated the roster for this over the past couple of years and will hopefully continue.
Father of the Year – Ian Cairns looks after this.
Warrnambool Eistedfod – Tony has been co-ordinating this. He would be happy for some assistance.
Relay for Life – John Nisbet has organised the roster for this. This is a great social event for the club as well as supporting Relay for Life.
Free Vehicle Check – Brian Trenery and Paul Forbes. Not had the response we would like. Considering the viability of this event for the coming year.
Community BBQ’s – Tony and his team doing a great job. BBQ’s come out of the blue sometimes and it is important that the club support him with volunteering.
Tasty Plate – Funds raised for Tasty Plate are to be presented on the night of the Thankyou Dinner.
Potential Projects – Ted King’s Sculpture Park Project. Warrnambool Community Soup Kitchen are seeking assistance – to be confirmed as to request. Clean Up Australia Day 1st March – an opportunity to get club members out to do something together. Property Clean Ups – partner with Brophy Family and Youth Services to clean up a property once or twice a year. Little Book Bug – Books for children in Food Hampers for FoodShare.
International Service – Tony Austin
Interplast – Interplast flask not making a large amount of money. Need to raise the profile of this.
Donations-in-Kind – This is going well and we have taken nearly 20 tonnes of donations to Geelong for distribution throughout the world.
Alternative Schoolies Project - Fundraising for this is supported by the club
PNG Project – Sariri Project is now complete and the project is to expand during 2017-18 into other parts of PNG.
Plan for this year is to:
1) Repair a damaged water bore near Popondetta and fit a small solar powered submersible pump
2) Visit several villages and schools to assess potential future projects.
3) Go to Embessa to deliver a commercial rotary hoe, put down a water bore and set a hand pump on it.
A further request has been received to assist Komea Village in the PNG Southern Highlands – this is an area of great need but would also be very difficult to assist as it is a very dangerous part of PNG.
Youth Services – Louise Keogh
INTERCLUB - This was very successful last year and the other clubs are keen to get on board again. We have been honoured with a certificate for inter-club activity.
RYPEN – Supporting Standing Tall by sending their kids off to the RYPEN program. Lou has now joined the RYPEN committee..
RYLA - Rachel looks after this. Nominations for participants are welcome.
ROTARACT – struggling for members but we still are seeking to help them out. Their trivia night has been cancelled for this year but they are planning to do this in March next year.
Youth Exchange – still looking for Host Familiies for this year. There are 2 exchange students, Benedict and Antonio, both arriving in July.
Youth Leadership Awards – This has been very successful and a great way to support the upcoming leaders of our community.
CLOSING REMARKS
Swindle
Number 93 – Ron Rauert, the luckiest man in the world, drew the 2 of Diamonds for a well-deserved $2 prize.
President Trevor thanked Lou, Anne, Andrea, Robbie, Julies, Judy and Jenny for the excellent Progressive Dinner last week. It was a very good evening.
Thank you to Terry and Thea Allan for coming tonight, as well as the two grandchildren who are here to attend Fun-4-Kids.
