Father of the Year

Ian Cairns gave a follow up to the Father of the Year breakfast. Another great event with a record number of entries. Very proud to announce that it wouldn’t be often that we would find Roma Britnell, Denis Napthine and both the Warrnambool City Mayor and Moyne Shire Mayor all present in one place. This is a feather in our cap. There was great coverage of the event in the Standard and 3YB. Four days coverage in the paper with full pages and articles. Lots of social media and videos done by 3YB.

Ian thanked everyone for their for support, especially Louise, Rachel and Karen on the committee. The committee will report back next week and seek some feedback from Rotarians at next weeks meeting.

Margaret Stalker

Tony Austin announced that he had been in contact with Duncan Stalker and that Margaret has been unwell with the flu which got very serious quite quickly and she was put in an ambulance to Warrnambool and then immediately to Melbourne where she has had a triple stent put in.

Bunnings BBQ

Tony announced that he was contacted by Bunnings with a cancellation for the BBQ last Saturday. We cleared $1283.25 which was the second most successful BBQ ever. Thanks to Tony Austin, Joan Austin, Rachel Furnell, Bryan Trennery, Bunny Hinchcliffe, Robbie Blackmore, Toni Ederer, Michael Boyd, Sharon Stark, Graeme Ward, Terry O’Neill, Ben Pfeil and Delia Jenkins for working the roster on the day.

Polio Plus Movie Fundraiser

Reminder for the Polio Plus - Movie fundraiser.  Victoria and Abdul. 7pm Thursday 14^th September. Tickets at the door at the Capitol Cinema.

(Ian gave us a history lesson in Stephen King movies, he is apparently very passionate about Stephen King and feels he deserves more credit.)

Louise Keogh introduced our exchange students, Toni and Ben, to give their reports on their life at home. Both students gave excellent reports after some hiccups with Ben's powerpoint presentation. A bit of running around by Lou and some assistance from Delia resulted in a very good report.

Antonia Ederer - Exchange student from Austria gave a very in depth presentation about her family and home and the Rotary club that she comes from.

Toni is 16 years old and is one of 7 children (ages 31, 29, 27, 25, 18, 13).

She told us many interesting facts about Austria, the state of Styria, the Capital City of Graz and her home town of Weiz that has a population of 11,000 with an Industrial infrastructure surrounded by agriculture.

Toni also told us about her local Rotary club and some of the projects they have been involved in.

Ben Pfeil – Exchange student from Germany. Ben comes from Darmstadt which is near Frankfurt.

He also shared information about his family and friends in Germany.

Ben is very fond of cats and likes to play basketball. His passion is photography and is very talented in this field.

Germany has many bordering countries including France, Switzerland, Netherlands, Poland Czech Union, Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark and Belgium. The temperature range in Germany is -10 to 30 and it often snows. Ben showed us many photos of the cities, towns and country side.

While on exchange he is looking forward to experiencing the Australian culture, making friends and seeing a kangaroo and koala.

Toni made a presentation to Trevor from her Rotary club.

Trevor thanked Toni and Ben for their presentations and our Rotaract visitors for joining us tonight and thanked everyone for coming out on such a wet and wild night.
