Judy Ross advised that 11 from RCW attended and had a great night. Didn't win the big prize but Judy's team got the prize for the "best wrong answer"! There were 12 teams and only 10 points separated first from last. Our two teams were only separated by 2 points - congratulations to Janet's team for just beating us.

Finesmaster Ian Cairns advised that he recently met with Dede Frebe of Foodshare. Dede advised that their time was up at the Mitre 10 building and thankfully the Uniting Church stepped in and has provided a new home.

 

Ian was ruthless in his fines and conducted his usual "random number draw" which nobody understands because of its randomness! Anne Adams and John Harris were fined for being so quiet at the drinks stall at Relay for Life - Anne denied even being there. Judy for giving Phillip a serve at Relay for Life. Scruffy for improvisation with egg rings. Brian Trenery came out for a quiet night with Jenny and was put to work. Michael Boyd for having his photo in the paper (as an alias). Anyone who went to the Sungold Field Days. Ron Rauert for Pancake Tuesday? Anyone with an Irish heritage because the Irish beat the West Indies. John Beks for being at the meeting. Happy Bucks: Ian's 19 year old daughter stayed with him for 3 months and has now gone (happy or sad?); Michael Boyd for becoming a grandfather for the third time; Keith because he was happy to be there; Judy because despite his serving at the Relay For Life, she thinks Phillip still loves her!

After a 6-month leave of absence, and ongoing, due to carer duties for John Beks' lovely bride of 55+ years, John felt that he almost had to re-introduce himself. A week of respite care had made it possible for him to be at the meeting on Tuesday.

Some six months ago John had the privilege to meet Karina Creed in her physiotherapy duties at St John of God Hospital. At the time she was about to leave for India and has recently returned. Prior to that, she also fulfilled a missionary role in Bangladesh and Tanzania. Karina was a Terang Rotary exchange student to Finland back in 1989.

John introduced Karina who spent 5 months in India during 2014. Karina volunteered at Pandita Ramabai Mukti Mission in Kedgaon, Maharashtra. Mukti is a Christian mission which offers safe refuge to disadvantaged women and girls. The mission was established in 1989 by a pioneering Indian woman named Pandita Ramabai and has a very proud and strong Christina heritage. This heritage is evident in every aspect of life within the mission.

Karina worked as a physiotherapist at the mission hospital which provides care to the mission residents and also to the poor in the local community. She was able to help with many of the elderly residents at Mukti and also with many of the special needs girls. She spent evenings with the 'Rose' family; a family of 21 girls aged 6-13 and supervised their homework and assisted with study. It was the formation of relationships and close friendships that was especially wonderful.

Karina found the experience of volunteering at Mukti extremely challenging but incredibly rewarding. The women and girls are so resilient in the face of such suffering and immense hardship.
