President Marie Bennett welcomed Rotarians and guests to the Dennington Bowls Club for its Bowls social night.
A great night was had by all on Tuesday at the Dennington Bowls Club, where members and guests were treated to an array of fantastic food and some interesting bowls. The photos tell some of the story:

Organiser extraordinaire, Judy Ross hard at work in the kitchen

Keith McLeod also hard at work in the kitchen. Keith made all the arrangements for us to have such delicious meat on the evening.

Gathering in the Club Rooms

Checking out the talent on the green

Ron Rauert and Ray Henry limbering up with their highly polished balls. Svet Lineham and Isobel Siebel provided added glamour to the occasion.
Now that's not how highly tuned athletes should prepare for competition! This is how it is done says Veronica Cuzens.
Its a long way down..... Ohhhh cute....
This looks serious. Where did all those balls come from?
Decision time. Is that Ian Cairns, Gordon Curran and Steve Giddens trying to influence the ref?  And esteemed referee and renowned bowler Rob Cuzens had the final say. The ball belonged to.......
Judy Ross .... and a complete waste of time lodging an objection!

Phillip Ross welcomed Rotarians and guests to the Dennington Bowls Club and provided a brief rundown on how the Bowls Club operates. New members are always welcome, with the cost of membership being $40 for membership and social bowls, and $85 for those wishing to play pennants. The Club also provides dinner on Friday nights at a cost of $15 per head for a two course meal. Just let Phillip know you are coming, so he can advise the caterers you are coming. The clubrooms are also available for hire and the bar is available up until 8:30 pm, after which a liquor license is required by whoever is hiring the venue.

Cameron Price will discuss Communities That Care, a program that facilitates the way a community promotes the healthy development of children and young people. It identifies and addresses priority areas to promote healthy development before young people become involved in problem behaviours, such as violence and antisocial behaviour, alcohol and substance abuse and leaving school before attaining year 12. See Cameron's profile at http://au.linkedin.com/in/cameronpr1ce

Invite your partner and friends to hear an address from Richard Rozen OAM a survivor of the holocaust.
Born in Radom, Poland, he was six years old when he hid with his parents in a cupboard for 13 months before eventually being forced to move to the Lubin Ghetto when their money ran out. Destined for the Treblinka Extermination Camp, the Rozencwajg family was smuggled to the safety of a Polish village where Richard spent several months disguised as a girl using the name Marisa Ulecki.
He eventually joined his doctor father, Pincus, in the partisans and survived there for 18 months until liberation. His father was not so fortunate. He was captured by the Germans in 1944 and never seen again.
After liberation, Richard rejoined his mother, and spent three months in a Sanatorium in Otwock, then three months in Lodz. He then spent one year in a Displaced persons Camp in Stuttgart, Germany, and then four and a half years in a French orphanage.

Don’t forget, if you are bring someone extra along to Rotary, please advise David Brown by 12 noon Monday 9 February 2015.

2015-16 ROTARY FOUNDATION PRIORITIES AND MEASURABLE GOALS

In support of Rotary’s strategic plan to support and strengthen clubs, focus and increase humanitarian service, and enhance public image and awareness, the following priorities for The Rotary Foundation are proposed for the three year period beginning 1 July 2015.  The measurable goals for each priority will be subject to change each year as progress is made toward achieving the priorities.

Priority 1. End Polio - Now and Forever
Goals:
No new cases caused by transmission of the wild polio virus.
Meet the Gates challenge to secure contributions of $35 million per year for End Polio Now.
Publicize Rotary’s role in the eradication of polio.
Review Rotary’s advocacy for polio eradication with a view to such advocacy being replicated in other humanitarian programs.

Priority 2. Strengthen Rotarians' knowledge, engagement, and financial support of The Rotary Foundation

  Goals:
Encourage clubs to learn more about Foundation programs by utilizing new and effective types of communications at their weekly meetings.
Assure that all districts are involved in Global Grants and that at least 25% of all clubs are involved in such grants.
Increase the number of clubs achieving the Every Rotarian, Every Year fundraising level by at
least 15% in all districts.
Increase the contributions received for the Annual Fund by at least 3% in all districts.

Priority 3. Increase the quality and impact of Rotary's humanitarian service effort through Foundation grants and the six Areas of Focus

Goals:
Increase the total expenditures for Global Grants by at least 10% worldwide.
Increase the number of Global Grant scholarships to at least one for all districts and an increase of at least 15% in such scholarships worldwide.
Increase the number of Vocational Training Teams to at least 100 teams worldwide.
Measure and evaluate Global Grants for sustainability, simplicity, and effectiveness.

Priority 4. Enhance the image and awareness of the Foundation's record of achievements, particularly the success of PolioPlus and its 100 year record of doing good in the world

Goals:
Plan and implement a centennial celebration for the Foundation’s 100th anniversary in 2016-17.
Promote Rotary’s focus on peace by scheduling an international conference for Rotarians and other prospective supporters, including government officials, non-governmental organizations, and charitable foundations.
Develop at least two new Foundation initiatives to recognize and publicize the need for membership growth in clubs and districts and the positive impact on service.
Increase the public awareness of Rotary by non-Rotarians as shown by their contributions to
the Foundation and their participation in Rotary projects.

The Football Club has informed David Brown that the numbers advised each week rarely tally up with actual meals served; apparently the advised numbers are always below actual by 5 or 6. This reflects poorly on our Club and members are reminded to please contact David Brown on david@swcredit.com.au or by phone 0438647536 if you will be an apology or will be bringing a guest/s. This information is published each week in the Bulletin, so there is no reason why members should not comply with this simple courtesy.

District 9780, 2015 Conference is fast approaching and Rotarians and partners are reminded to register as soon as possible. If accommodation is required, it is suggested you book, as availability is very limited. Please refer to the Conference website for registration and accommodation arrangements.

They say milk is good for your teeth. Well you know what else is good for your Teeth? Minding your own damn business.
Wouldn't it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes; come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller!
Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet!
I don't trip over things, I do random gravity checks!
Old age is coming at a really bad time!
When I was a child I thought Nap Time was a punishment ... now, as a grown up, it just feels like a small vacation!
The biggest lie I tell myself is ... "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it."
Lord grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the friends to post my bail when I finally snap!
I don't have gray hair. I have "wisdom highlights." I'm just very wise.
My people skills are just fine. It's my tolerance to idiots that needs work.
Teach your daughter how to shoot, because a restraining order is just a piece of paper.
If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would've put them on my knees.
The kids’ text me "plz" which is shorter than please. I text back "no" which is shorter than "yes".
I like my middle finger best because it always sticks up for me!
I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do that second week.
I've lost my mind and I'm pretty sure my kids took it!
Even duct tape can't fix stupid ... but it can muffle the sound!
Why do I have to press one for English when you're just gonna transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway?
Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need expert advice.
Oops! Did I roll my eyes out loud?
At my age "Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I came in there for.
