BOARD MEETING – NOVEMBER 2017
Report to Members
Leave of Absences have been approved for:
- Brian Trenery until the end of December – work commitments.
Resignations have been received from:
- Karen Marsh – due to work commitments and she is taking on new study so she can get a job that doesn’t involve shift work.
- Eddie Sutcliffe – for family and health reasons. Some of our newer members don’t know Eddie who has been unable to attend meetings for some time now. But Eddie has been a member for over 30 years, having joined Rotary in 1986.
Finance:
- Treasurer Michael Boyd reported that overall we have $89,000 in the bank.
- No red flags at this point.
- The Fashion Parade came in on budget and made $2,122.
- The Money spinners have had to be moved due to change of management. One has been relocated to Gateway. Suggestions would be welcome for locating the second one
- Raffle money is starting to come in. Major selling time will be January.
Director Reports:
The Christmas breakup will be at Lake Pertobe on 19 December. The backup is Surfside One should we get inclement weather. Kris Kringle will be on again.
Armistice Centenary Grants Program – a plaque is being considered as our Club’s contribution.
Recognition of Rotarians who died whilst in Rotary is also ongoing.
International:
The RAWCS Project Registration has been a long and difficult process and an application has finally been submitted. Tony is hopeful that it will get through. To get a grant the Club needed to partner with the Oro Community Service Foundation in PNG.
The Oro Province Community Foundation has been very active and has identified several potential water provision projects, including a hospital, four schools and numerous villages.
The PNG Projects Group - This concept has moved forward and we now have Rotary Warrnambool, Rotary Geelong and the OCSF. Tony has been asked to speak to Rotary Mount Martha on 27 November. They have pledged $3,500 to one of our projects. Tony believes they will join the group, along with Rotary Wynyard (Tasmania). Tony will also be speaking to Wannon Water again in the hope that they will continue as a partner.
Two water pumps have been donated by CFA Aeries Inlet.
Brauer College is also interested in being a partner and help out with donating library books and to set up two very dilapidated classrooms that he would like to set up as vocational training areas.
Publicity:
Remember to let Richard Hawker know if you have any newsworthy items that could go into the Standard or be publicised by 3YB.
Vocational:
Mal Price advised that he has two confirmed vocational visits – ‘F’ Project on 5 December and on 16 January Peter Headon from 3YB will talk to Rotarians and then take us on a site visit.
Risk Management:
There are still 4 Working With Children checks outstanding and 2 Code of Conduct declarations. These are compulsory for all Rotarians. If you need any help with these, please see either Gerry or myself.
President Trevor and Judy Ross attended the Rotary House AGM recently and raised a possible project in the future. No details at this stage but conversations are commencing.
The Lookout Project – this project is to build a medium to long term accommodation facility in Warrnambool to treat Drug and Alcohol candidates. The 7 Rotary Clubs in the District may be involved in donating towards the project. It is likely that this project will be the major recipient of this year’s Dinner Auction.
Bunnings BBQ on 2 December – member support needed.
