The evening took the form of a vocational visit to the F-Project where we enjoyed a lovely BBQ dinner in the gardens followed by a visit inside to see the artwork and hear about the work of the F-Project in promoting creative arts in the community.

Mal introduced Emma Carlton president of F Project committee.

Emma pointed out that the gardens we were sitting in tonight were the Guyett family farm within the city. The property is being restored with chooks and an orchard.

What do the creative arts mean to you?

The project began in 2008 with the demise of the Fletcher Jones Factory.

A group of ladies saw lots of fabric been loaded in a truck for disposal. They are if they could have the fabric and it was dropped at a home and has been used for a lot of things over the years.

The centre is used for:

Professional development of artists.
Community awareness, engagement and appreciation for arts.
Been here since 2013 and run completely by volunteers.
Exhibitions change every 4 weeks.
Retail space.
Studios that artists can rent. $20 -$38 a week.
Workshop space.
Residence accommodation for visiting artists.

Where do the funds come from?

Tenants
Members
Volunteers
Fundraising
Philanthropic trusts.

In 2017 - 15 exhibitions, 7117 visitors making  $25125.00 in sales.

While the ‘F’ - really stands for Fletcher (Jones)  it also stands for fashion, festivals, food and family (sense of social sustainability).
