Tonight would like to speak to you about one of our Senior Members, John Hunt.
In 1979 John as a young Accountant arrived in Warrnambool to start work at Coffey & Co. Two years later he became a partner, then sole partner in 1982, with a staff of 10. When he retired from the business in 2013 Coffey Hunt and Co. had 44 staff and has since merged with another firm to become one of the largest Accountancy firms in the Western District with a staff of 70.
Although retired he still enjoys an active interest with part time work.
John is a Director of the Gwen & Edna Jones Foundation and the Ray & Joyce Uebergang Foundation which has given over 10 Million dollars in grants, predominately to the Western District.
Eric Williams ,our senior Member was for many years also a Director of the Jones Foundation and worked closely with John.
John and Anne were married in 1982 having just celebrated their 36th wedding Anniversary They have 3 children. Andrea, David And Georgia Daughter in Law Jess and are the proud Grandparents of Granddaughter Emily.
He is a keen sportsman having played over 100 senior Football games in Tasmania and South Warrnambool as a young man ,and now a dedicated swimmer in all the coastal swims for a number of years having completed 25 Pier to Pub swims at Lorne .
I have always admired John he has a quite unassuming manner, developed a hugely successful business, always working quietly in the background, which, unknown to many, has been of great benefit to this Club, the Rotary Foundation and the community of Warrnambool.
John was inducted into our Rotary Club on the 31st of July 1984, I remember his late father, a Rotarian in Geelong visiting our Club in the early 80s so there is also a connection there.
