Thank you to our generous community for your support of the BEL Rotary annual voluntary

toll. More than $5000. was raised to support local and international service work.

On Saturday July11th, members of the Rotary Club of Bridgenorth Ennismore Lakefield “hit the pavement” at the causeway in Bridgenorth for the annual voluntary toll.  Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful community the fundraiser was a huge success and raised more than $5000. to support our local and international projects.

Local projects include the ongoing development and maintenance of Rotary Park in Ennismore and the Bridgenorth Trail, support of Chemong Community Care, and the annual “Adopt a Family” Christmas project, which provides families in the area with a brighter Christmas in the form of toys, games, books and clothing.

On the international scene, the BEL Club is embarking on a major project to build a school in the village of Sevy Rieng, Cambodia.  The region has a young population, which dates back to the genocide of the Khmer Rouge in the mid 1970s.  During this time 2.1 million people were killed. The children left behind have grown up uneducated and poor.

The nation’s fastest growing economy is tourism.  The Pacific Rim of Vietnam, Cambodia and Thailand is a prime tourist destination and skills in the English language are a must for getting jobs in the industry (tourism).  The school is being built to provide English classes to children as well adults (in the evening).  For more information about this project, please go to www.belrotary.com or contact Tony Davidson at 705-292-8977.

Again, the Rotary Club extends a heartfelt thank you for your support.  Together we can make a difference in the lives of people at home and around the world.
