OPP Const Richard Nie accepts a cheque from David Tilley for the sponsorship of
two students to the OPP summer camp.

Each year the Ontario Provincial Police host a summer camp for economically disadvantaged youth who otherwise would not have the opportunity to experience a camp environment.  The goal of the camp is to provide the students with life lessons and to build skills in team building, leadership and communication through interactive games and opportunities. Students participate in activities that teach them the value of working together and that through positive interaction and cooperative problem solving, they can learn more and accomplish more than they can working independently.  They develop confidence and self-awareness and the ability to accept difficulties in a positive manner.  Former “campers” report that the skills they learned at the camp have helped them in their personal and now work lives.

The BEL Rotary Club has been sponsoring students to this camp for the past several years.  Rotarians believe that investing in youth is investing in the future. Rotarians provide programs for youth of all ages – either directly through Rotary sponsored programs or indirectly though the financial sponsorship of youth to programs such as the OPP camp.
