About 20 years ago, under the leadership of Architect and member Christopher Tworkowski, BEL Rotary designed and built the Green Classroom at Chemong Public School. Even since it has been a favorite location for students to gather, learn and appreciate the natural environment. On the weekend, Rotarians partnered with the school community to weed eat, rake and in general, spruce up the area. They also assessed the classroom for future maintenance including painting and replacing some shingles and boards. This work will take place in the early spring. The environment is one of the Rotary Foundation’s area of focus. “It is so important for children to have a place where they can be outside, understand nature and learn how to be stewards of the environment”, said mother and Rotarian Courtney Usborne.
