Brad Conlin from the Canadian Wakeboard Open 2012 speaks to the club

With a ring of the bell, President Ruth presided over another evening of Rotary at Chemong Lodge. With Yours truly doing fines, Bob Fawcett taking the 50/50 and Don handling grace, we were off to the races.

Announcements:

President Ruth provided information on the young authors event that the club sponsored through the Lakefield Literary Festival. Photos from the event were in the Herald and a letter of thanks was passed around.

Speaker:

Bob Craw introduced Brad Conlin. Brad has been a long time employee of the lodge and is well known in the community for his contributions to the sport of Wakeboarding.  Starting in 2005, the Canadian Wakeboard Open outgrew Rotary Park in Ennismore in 2008 and moved to Beavermead Park in Peterborough. Attracting 1000 spectators in its first year, last year over 10,000 people attended  including over 100 participants.  In 2009 the event was chosen to host the national championships and did so successfully. Partnering with many community and service organizations along with major sponsors   such as Molsons, the event has drawn large musical acts, with I Mother Earth headlining this year. The event will take place on August 24th to the 26th in Peterborough.  More information can be found at www.wakeboardfestival.com
