It is monetary gifts of the Rotary Foundation that make our work possible. The Paul Harris Fellowship recognizes contributions of US$1000 to the foundation, either by individuals or on behalf of individuals.
At the annual Paul Harris Dinner Monday night, the BEL Club had the honour of recognizing two valued members with a Paul Harris Fellow for their incredible contributions. Dorothy Menton has given to Rotary for more than 25 years. She has travelled to Nigeria and Pakistan to give life saving polio drops, has worked in Cambodia to bring English education to rural children and is most recently working to support a children’s village in Panama. She works with club members to promote understanding of and contributions to the Rotary Foundation. Her kindness and friendship make the club strong. Congratulations Dorothy.
In the short period of time she has been with BEL Rotary, Mary Lou Tryan has made significant contributions. She has been instrumental in helping the club to pivot to its new meeting location. She listens, sees a need and takes steps to make things happen. She has worked in our food security programs, taken leadership of the “Sunshine for Seniors” and the purchase and distribution of books to local schools and libraries promoting peace. Congratulations Mary Lou.
The BEL Club also had the bittersweet honour of recognizing a member posthumously. Don Thornton was the quintessential Rotarian. He dedicated his time and resources to making the club stronger and the community a better place to be. He was involved in all aspects of Rotary life and a very strong supporter of the Rotary Foundation. Don was recognized with a Paul Harris +7, meaning that 8000USD were donated by him or on his behalf to the Rotary Foundation. The recognition was accepted by his daughter and son in law, Deb and Bruce Webster.
