Holiday Wish List Time

It's time to get out the nomination forms for our Annual Holiday Wish List project. Toys for Tots will, once again, supply the toys.

If you know of an organization, school or church that would be interested in nominating a family to be the recipient of some holiday cheer, please request a nomination form from Donna.

The nomination forms must be returned by no later than October 23. After the recipient families are selected, their sponsoring organizations will receive the forms where the requested items are listed.

Need by date is only a month out so now is the time to take action.

Sheriff Bradley Steps to the Plate

During the Sept 2 Happy Hour meeting at Posse Grounds, President Mary asked the members to consider making a donation to the club. Since our major fund raisers for 2020 were cancelled, the club will be out more than $30,000 in revenue. While all of the usual projects and programs are in the budget for the current fiscal year, the 2021-22 year may face some changes.

Sheriff Bradley has led the way with a check for $1,000. Janie also made a generous contribution based on a per-capita amount for all 17 of the luscious desserts that she's baked for Dennis since the pandemic.

Participation is strictly voluntary. Any amount will be truly appreciated.

PICNIC MEETING JUNE 10

The location for the Brown Bag Picnic meeting on Weds. - June 10 will be POSSE GROUNDS PARK. Starts at "noon-ish".

We will meet at the picnic tables located between the Upper and Lower ball fields next to the concession stand. The Upper ball field is where we hold Oktoberfest. There is an access gate from the parking area adjacent to the concession stand.

There is a good size shady area. I will get there early and sanitize the picnic tables - but if you can bring your own chair - that is best. Bring your lunch too!

Hope to see you there.

Backpacks Delivered to SOCSD

Posted by Donna Hawk on Jul 19, 2018

A variety of colorful backpacks will greet thirty-six at need elementary grade students as they return to classes at West Sedona School in August.

The back packs, provided free of charge by the Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks, also contain essential school supplies. Each backpack, suitable for grades K – 4, holds two spiral notebooks, a dozen pencils, two glue sticks, one wedge eraser, a pair of safety scissors, a box of colored pencils and a set of 24 assorted crayons.

This is the eighth year that Red Rocks Rotary has donated the backpacks and supplies. They will be distributed by the Sedona Oak Creek School District to students lacking the necessary start of school staples. The district’s new superintendent Dennis Dearden helped unload the backpacks when they were delivered to the district’s offices on July 19 by Red Rocks Rotarian Donna Hawk.

The backpack donation is valued at nearly $1,000 which the Red Rocks Rotary finances through its fund raising efforts. During its past fiscal year, the club hosted seven events including its signature charity golf tournament and the popular Red Rocks Oktoberfest. Combined net proceeds for all of the events was over $38,000.

Back Packs Delivered to SOCSD for 6th Year

Posted by Donna Hawk on Jul 19, 2016

A variety of colorful backpacks will greet forty at need elementary grade students as they return to classes in the Sedona Oak Creek School District in August.

The back packs, provided free of charge by the Rotary Club of Sedona Red Rocks, also contain essential school supplies. Each backpack, suitable for grades K – 3, holds one spiral notebook, a dozen pencils, a glue stick, one wedge eraser, a box of 24 colored pencils and a set of 24 assorted crayons.

Delivered to the Sedona Oak Creek School District Administrative Office on July 19, this is the sixth year that Red Rocks Rotary has donated the backpacks and supplies. They will be distributed where most needed by the SOCSD to students at both West Sedona School and Big Park Elementary School.

The backpack donation comes every year just following the completion of Red Rocks Rotary’s longest running service project which is the summer school literacy program at West Sedona School. The club’s support of the program began in 2003 at the urging of its founding member the late Ray Myrvold.

Red Rocks Rotary annually provides $1,500 toward the cost of the program. Red Rock Rotarians also personally visit the campus and assist the students with their reading lessons during the summer session.

On Sunday May 19, ninety-two golfers participated in the club's annual charity golf event at the Sedona Golf Resort. Following the round of golf, the tournament includes lunch and its wildly popular raffle. This year the festivities also featured the live auction of an electric guitar autographed by Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Phoenix resident and avid golfer Alice Cooper. Capping off nearly three months of soliciting donations and organizational efforts, the tournament generated a net profit of $18,600 which will be used to fund Red Rocks Rotary's youth oriented projects and programs.
