OAKVILLE FAMILY DRIVE-THRU RIBFEST
The Oakville Family Drive-Thru Ribfest scheduled for June 18-20, 2021, will be postponed until the late summer of 2021 due to the current health and safety environment. In early July we will announce a decision on the date.

The Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar is grateful for the cooperation of the host campus of Sheridan College and the partnership of our many community-minded sponsors.

The health and safety of our community and our numerous volunteers are of paramount concern for Rotary Oakville Trafalgar. Thank you for your support of Rotary’s fundraising efforts and for helping us to help others in our community and internationally.

Please stay tuned for updates and our plans on our website at www.oakvillefamilyribfest.com. Please direct any questions to info@oakvillefamilyribfest.com.

INDIGENOUS COMMITTEE UPDATE
I expect that most of you have read that Laurentian University has entered into Creditor Protection and has let over 100 teachers go and cut over 60 programs. Up to now, all students who took programs through the University of Sudbury actually graduated from Laurentian. Unfortunately, Laurentian has severed their relationship with the University of Sudbury which impacts our Indigenous Scholarship. As a result, the University of Sudbury has cancelled all classes starting with the upcoming Spring term until they are able to determine how they will operate going forward. The future of the Indigenous Studies program is unknown at this time. We are closely monitoring the situation and working with the University of Sudbury.

HELP PRESERVE OUR POLLINATORS: HOW TO GROW A BEE AND BUTTERFLY-FRIENDLY GARDEN
Several weeks ago, our weekly meeting featured speakers from the Monarch Ultra Run and there was a lot of interest in what they had to say about helping to preserve Monarch butterflies by planting pollinator-friendly plants in your own garden. Take it from me, it’s very easy to do and it will bring you great joy to hear the bees and bumblebees buzzing and to see beautiful butterflies alighting on your plants for some nourishment.

JIM"S JOTTINGS
Breaking News
At the end of the 18th Century a French army, led by one of Napoleon’s generals, defeated a large Russian army at Zurich. It removed Russia from the allied nations fighting against Napoleon. The news of this victory took six days to reach Paris and a full three months before the news was published, as breaking news, by the Montreal Gazette.

VALSA - ONE OF US IN THE COMMUNITY AND BEYOND
Valsa recently joined our club and is making her contribution in our community and beyond.

She has now arranged a northern drop off location at 3169 Neyagawa (by the garage door) for our charity bottle drive.

Internationally, Valsa has made a  substantial donation, in the name of the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, to her previous club for their work to empower village families in rural Cambodia.

We are an active group of volunteers; we raise money so that we can give it all away, and we have a lot of fun doing it!

At the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, we are a diverse group of people of varying ages and from all walks of life—professionals, entrepreneurs, retirees, parents, and grandparents—and united in our commitment to the Rotary ideal of Service Above Self. We share a common purpose: to make a difference in our community and to create lasting positive change here at home and around the world.
Our 1.2 million-member organization started with the vision of one man—Paul P. Harris. The Chicago attorney formed one of the world’s first service organizations, the Rotary Club of Chicago, on 23 February 1905 as a place where professionals with diverse backgrounds could exchange ideas and form meaningful, lifelong friendships. Rotary’s name came from the group’s early practice of rotating meetings among the offices of each member.

You are invited to visit us at an upcoming meeting. Currently we are meeting via ZOOM on Thursdays at 12 noon. You can receive the meeting invitation my emailing info@rcot.ca
