The group started the day off with a hike around Fisher’s Pond, where they learned about the some of the ecology and habitat restoration that the Bruce Trail Conservancy is doing to on this property. Then the group split up into two teams: Group 1 helped to finish a planting from the previous day. They helped to plant 125 wildflowers and tall grasses, as part of the ongoing tall grass prairie restoration. Group 2 helped with the removal of an invasive species called buckthorn in an area where we are trying to introduce more native trees to support a more diverse forest. In a few weeks, we will be able to return to this location to start planting some of those trees where buckthorn previously had been dominating the forest landscape.
