TRISH WISE

(March 20, 1946 - May 5, 2016)

Patricia "Trish" Wise passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 surrounded by her loving family and friends. A long time Houston resident, Trish was a Houston educator and civic leader- a teacher at The Village School; Education Liaison for Harris County Precinct 3 and former president of the Katy and Greater Southwest Houston Chamber of Commerce. During her time heading the GSWHCC, she was an active Bellaire Rotarian, contributing generously to our club projects and grants.  She also headed the Wilburn scholarship foundation when it was sponsored by the GSWHCC.  Trish was born in Anderson, Indiana and graduated from Illinois Wesleyan University. She is survived by husband Art Wise and children, Meg McGee, Molly Kalinec, Greg McGee, and James Wise. She was the proud grandmother of five.

FRANK G. COOK

(April 23, 1925 - June 23, 2011)

Long-time Bellaire SW Rotarian Frank Cook passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2011, at the age of 86. Frank rarely missed Rotary before Alzheimer's took its toll. He was survived by his lovely wife Shirley, and they are sorely missed at Rotary parties and meetings. Frank was an outstanding area banker, and the luckiest gambler most of us ever knew. His Coushatta group trips were legendary. Frank served as chairman of the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce, was recognized with the Leon Rosner Award for his service to the community, and was one of the founders of Citizens National Bank of Texas. After CNB was sold to Bank of Texas, he and others in the community started Community National Bank, where he served as Chairman of the Board. Earthman Bellaire handled the arrangements, with visitation on Tuesday, June 28, in the Earthman Bellaire Chapel, 6700 Ferris, Bellaire, Texas 77401, followed by funeral and graveside services. BOB VICKERY

(August 19, 1928 - April 23, 2009)

Former BSWH Rotary President (1976-1977) Bob Vickery passed away on April 23, 2009, following a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Bob retired from the banking business as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Tradition Bank and was Chairman Emeritus until his death. He was a Paul Harris Fellow and outstanding Rotarian with regular attendance at meetings and events until his illness made it impossible to continue. He is survived by his beloved wife, Pat Vickery (a realtor in Richmond, Texas); his brother, Ed Vickery of Katy; sons Robby Vickery and Randy Vickery of Austin; stepchildren Lori Avila, Guy Fuller, and Brent Fuller; ten granchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Bob became an Eagle Scout at 16, graduated in 1945 from Paschal High School in his native Fort Worth, and earned degrees from both UT Austin and Stanford.  He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and moved to Houston with his family in 1969 where he began his banking career at First National Bank Bellaire and, later, Alief Alamo Bank, both of which are now Tradition Bank. He was an avid sports fan who rarely missed a Longhorn game, and he truly loved playing tennis. In addition to Rotary, Bob belonged to the Lions Club of Bellaire, the Bellaire Chamber of Commerce, the Southwest Chamber of Commerce, and The Whitehall Club.  He will be remembered by all who knew him as a man of honesty, integrity, genuine kindness and compassion. 

    AL 'KOKO' KOCHRAN

(May 3, 1924 - November 16, 2005)

Al Kochran passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2005, in the coronary care unit of Methodist Hospital at approximately 10:30 p.m., at the age of 81. He left behind his wife, Marjorie; his son, Scott, and wife Le and their sons Kenny and Steven; his daughters, Margo Costello and Candy Shephard and her husband, Mike, and their children Duane, Alan and Shelly, along with great-grandson Darryl Shephard. He enjoyed good health and a full life right up until his unexpected massive heart attack, even giving his famous World War II speech to a group of businessmen the day before his death. He would have beamed a lopsided grin of approval at the multitude of Rotarians, community leaders, and friends who gathered at the Friday visitation at Settegast Kopf. His funeral liturgy was delivered to a large crowd on Saturday morning, November 19, at St. Vincent De Paul, which is the same church where he and Margie married 51 years before. Al was laid to final rest in Memorial Mission Mausoleum of Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer, Houston. His sincerity and easy wit is missed not only by Rotarians but by all who knew and loved him.

DICK MATTHEWS
Born April 28, 1920, Crosby Richard (Dick) Matthews was active in the Bellaire/Southwest Houston Rotary Club for more than 40 years, serving as its president in 1979-1980. A devout Christian, Dick loved to argue religion and philosophy at every opportunity. He tirelessly presented the Club News and was noted for selling an astonishing number of tickets to fundraisers for the Club. An electrical engineer, Dick was sponsored for Rotary membership by Mark Druvand, and his primary non-vocational interest was charity work. He was survived by his wife, Genoyce Matthews, who died in July of 2011.

Dick Caldarelli
Former Bellaire Rotary President Richard Caldarelli died at the age of 73 on April 28, 2005, at home in Lakeway, Texas, where he had retired after 34 years as a Houston podiatrist. He served as our president during the 1967-68 Rotary year, was a Paul Harris Fellow, and also was honored as Bellaire Southwest Rotarian of the Year. Born in Steubenville, Ohio on December 28, 1932, Dick graduated from Miami of Ohio and the Ohio College of Podiatry. He served as president of the Harris County Podiatry Association and as a board member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston. When he retired to the Lakewood Community, he served as board member of the Newcomer's Club, president of the Lakeway Men's Golf Association, president of LYCC and president of the Dance Club, enjoying life and his many friends to the fullest. He was a member of the Lakeway Ecumenical Church. He served in the Army Medical Corps in Japan during the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Buck Caldarelli of Lakeway; his daughter and her husband, Karen and Clayton Cary; his granddaughter, Sarah Cary, all of Austin; and his sister and her husband, Darlene and Robert Hyde of Brilliant, Ohio. His memorial services were held at Lakeway Ecumenical Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd., Lakeway, Texas on Thursday, April 28, 2005 at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Brent Graham officiating, followed by a private graveside service the next day at Memorial Oaks Cemetery in Houston under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78752.

DOUG HOLFORD

Alden D.(Doug)Holford rejoined Bellaire/Southwest Houston Rotary Club a couple of years before his death in 2004, after an extended absence. He was a graduate of Harvard Law School, and published an article on The Limits of Strict Liability for Product Design and Manufacture, in the 1973 Texas Law Journal. He represented class action plaintiffs fighting big tobacco interests during his early career, and in his final years engaged in a general civil practice. He is survived by a daughter.

RON ZILLIOX

Ron Zilliox was District 5890 webmaster, responsible for initial design and publication of the District website and for mentoring area clubs as they came online. Shortly before being killed in a car accident, he directed a comprehensive 'web presence' workshop at the District meeting. He was survived by his wife.

DONALD JANICEK

Former Bellaire Southwest Rotary Club president Don Janicek succumbed to a heart attack in late Oct 2002. He owned Don's Record Shop in Bellaire until 1998, which was a time capsule of "oldies," show tunes and oddities such as the Chipmunks Christmas Song by a trio of chirpy cartoon characters. Janicek also ran a record label, whose offerings included a variety of fight songs for the Houston Oilers football team. According to former BSWH Rotarian, singer and band leader Ezra Charles, "He was definitely a pioneer in the Houston music business and the person probably most responsible for trying to educate the public about music." Don was born in Columbus and grew up in the Houston Heights, starting work at a camera shop to earn money to buy a record player so he could listen to the 78s then being played at a neighborhood record ship. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and therafter opened the Bellaire Camera and Record Shop. He also owned an advertising agency and loved to play Santa during the Christmas season. Survivors include daughters Alicia Ammons and Heidi Brown and sons James Keen III, William "Randy" Keen and David Janicek. Click for Houston Chronicle Obituary.
