Due to COVID-19, our annual wine dinner fundraiser to benefit the Willbern Heritage Scholarship Foundation will be postponed to 2021. You may still support the well-deserving high school students with their college education by making your check out to Bellaire Southwest Houston Rotary Club Foundation and mailing it to PO Box 254, Bellaire, TX 77402. As always, we thank you for your generosity and commitment to higher education. Learn more about the Willbern Heritage Scholarship Foundation by clicking here.

The World Health Organization (WHO) on 25 August announced that transmission of the wild poliovirus has officially been stopped in all 47 countries of its African region. This is a historic and vital step toward global eradication of polio, which is Rotary’s top priority.

After decades of hard won gains in the region, Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) — WHO, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, UNICEF, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and Gavi, the vaccine alliance — are proclaiming the milestone an achievement in public health. They offer it as proof that strong commitment, coordination, and perseverance can rid the world of polio.

Our very own city of HOUSTON, specifically our District 5890, will be the 2022 Rotary International Convention host city! This was a lengthy process that involved many people throughout our District, particularly PDG Rhonda Kennedy, and her committee. Rotary International is investing almost $1 MILLION dollars to promote Rotary in District 5890. This promo will result in more visits to our club’s website, Facebook, and social media. Ads will display on social media, Houston Public Media News 88.7, plus with the Houston Chronicle and Chron.com, and there is more to come! Research has shown that brand awareness of Rotary increased by 40% in a particular city after being host of the Rotary International Convention. Every member is a "Rotary Brand Ambassador" - now let's show the world who District 5890 is!
