Platypuses are unique. The platypus is the world's only remaining monotreme ---egg-laying mammal. The semi-aquatic predator is a keystone species in freshwater ecosystems, helping to control populations of macro-invertebrates such as insect larvae, shrimp, and yabbies. A healthy platypus population is an indicator of healthy river systems.

Rotarians and ESRAG (Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group) members, Colin Scobie and Peter Row met with Cr Karl Winchester and acting/ CEO Matt Anderson from the City of Moreton Bay Council to talk about all things environmental.

Rotary (ESRAG's) participation at the Moreton Bay Eco Fest;
Need for Catchment Management plans for the Caboolture and Pine Rivers watersheds;
Blue spill in Humpybong Creek identified;
Effective Sediment Management Control on development sites;
Using the unprecedented ecological disaster in South Australia as a 'wake up call' for Moreton bay;
Combating the proliferation of marine debris (plastic pollution);
Planned changes to 7 Joseph Crescent, Deception Bay should strengthen an environmental focus;
Ensure Council' soon to be published Biodiversity Plan includes the protection of our flora and fauna on our beaches; and
The impact of beach nourishment at Drury Point, Scarborough, a case in point.
