International Youth Day is an awareness day designated by the United Nations recognized on August 12th. The purpose of the day is to draw attention to a given set of cultural and legal issues surrounding youth.

The theme of International Youth Day 2020, “Youth Engagement for Global Action” seeks to highlight the ways in which the engagement of young people at the local, national and global levels is enriching national and multilateral institutions and processes, as well as draw lessons on how their representation and engagement in formal institutional politics can be significantly enhanced.

We at Rotary embrace all youth for their service and guide them through leadership development. We encourage the community to recognize the importance of our youth on this special day and everyday.

HAPPY NEW ROTARY YEAR!!

For our Changeover & New Member Induction we thanked 2019-2020 President Jewel Cumberbatch for her leadership and the club's achievements and welcomed in 2020-2021 President PAG David Beck and incoming club board members with a pinning induction.

Having been forced to separate and remain socially distanced for three months after the unfortunate news of the pandemic, the club members got the opportunity to get together for a small gathering to commemorate its achievements for winning 3 Gold club awards recognized by District 7020 amongst other successful projects and events.

We were also very excited that we got the opportunity to induct two members into our Rotary Family!

As we respond to the many changes in our daily activities in order to protect ourselves and our community from the Covid19 virus we must follow the direction of the authorities to end face to face meetings. Thus, we have been advised that person to person Club meetings should be curtailed and Teleconferencing is being encouraged. The utilization of on-line meetings via Zoom is the logical alternative for our Rotary community. As such our meeting this week will be held via Zoom until advised otherwise.

Please message our Facebook page or email us if you would like to join our weekly meetings.

Continuing our focus on Peace and Conflict Prevention and Resolution / Black History Month, we has guest presenter Dr. Chenzira Kahina talk to our club on the Sacred Legacy of the Maroons. Rotary’s new collaboration with Toastmasters International was also announced as we welcomed both Dr. Chenzira and Mr. Alley, member of St. Croix Toastmasters, to learn about Toastmaster's International as part of a new collaboration effort with Rotary

Past Rotarian Peter Tewinkle joined our club with expertise in conflict management and gave an engaging presentation the benefits and disadvantages of conflict, conflict resolution vs conflict transformation, getting beneath the surface of a conflict to solve problems, and tools to use at home/work.

We focus our Vocational Service Awards Luncheon on those
people who work hard but are rarely recognized and we take this time to thank them so much for all they do. Vocational Service reflects on the objectives of Rotary to encourage and foster high ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupations as an opportunity to serve society.
Rotarians and Non-members can learn of the service that is being done in our community everyday and encourage more persons to learn about Rotary and how they can use their service in a Rotary club
The Rotary Club of St. Croix provided gifts to children with disabilities during our Christmas in the Park event from 12pm - 3pm at Limpricht Park in Christiansted on Sunday, December 22, 2019. We invited the children and their parents/guardians to come out to the park to accept their gifts and share in the joy of the Christmas Season!

World Polio Day is a time for Rotary members all over the world to gather, recognize our progress, and get ready to eradicate polio. However our club contributes this World Polio Day, we take action to help End Polio Now.

Currently we host Early Act at the Juanita Gardine Elementary School on Wednesdays from12-12:30PM during the school season inspiring youth leadership and development for service for elementary students from ages 5 to 13. “The mission of EarlyAct is to promote goodwill, understanding and peace through the active participation of its student members so that with committed citizenship and effective leadership they may improve the quality of life of their school, local and global communities.”
In reflection of last month’s theme Basic Education, Literacy, and New Generations Month, the Rotary Club of St. Croix hosted a Poetry Night at CHOP Bar and Grill to enhance awareness of its important to the territory. A total of 20 poems were shared.

The Rotary Club of St. Croix assisted a member of the club by being a hosted group at a networking event called The Gathering: Cocktails and Connections where the club got a final chance for the month to increase literacy education. The club gave away free books. Many community members took home a nice reading as we encouraged their interest to read and share stories

The Rotary Club of St. Croix hosted a beach clean up at Salt River Beach from 9 – 10AM taking on this initiative in commemoration of the Ocean Conservancy’s 34th International Coastal Cleanup focused on Harnessing the Power of People to Fight Ocean Trash. The club provided trash bags, buckets, gloves, and water. With many hands on deck the beach clean up was a success with the 12 large bags of trash collected. We even got featured in the local paper!
