BURLINGTON, Ontario- The Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore (RCBL) announced the winners of 9 scholarships recipients at the annual awards banquet held last night. $47,500 in student scholarships were awarded by the Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore and its charitable foundation. Out of a total of 62 entries received, this year nine awards of $2,500 have been given to exceptional Burlington high school students. In addition a $15,000 Graduate Scholarship was awarded to Kathryn Sinden M.Sc.

The Rotary Club of Burlington Lakeshore Charitable Foundation was established in 1991 to provide educational awards to graduating high school students in the greater Burlington area, to assist them with post-secondary education costs. These awards are made possible because of our fundraising event, Canada’s Largest Ribfest.

The Foundation is an endowment funded so that these awards can be provided each year from income earned by the Foundation assets. The criteria for the selection of students winning an award include: academic average; community and school volunteer service; demonstration of leadership in school or community activities; and financial need

A special feature at this year’s awards ceremony was the announcement for the music lineup for Canada’s Largest Ribfest and featured a showcase performance from students at Merriam Music, a partner of Canada’s Largest Ribfest who will also be taking to the Gazebo Stage all weekend long later this summer.
