We were able to live vicariously through Rotarians Rita, Rose and Luisa. They returned from the Rotary International Peace Conference in Istanbul, Turkey and gave us a presentation about their trip. They were still jetlagged but rose to the occasion nonetheless!
They shared stories about the conference and Istanbul. It was wonderful to hear about the kits they took to Syrian refugee children. Donations were collected to pack the kits so they could be delivered safely to a Rotarian in Turkey. Well done, Ladies!
The Rotary Club of Brampton celebrated International Women's Day 2025 with invited guest speaker Dr Brenda Elias. Brenda shared some of the history of this important day and women's achievements in sports and art and culture. It was a fun meeting with a lot of questions during the Q & A following her presentation.
On Monday March 17th, 2025, the Rotary Club of Brampton celebrated St Patrick's Day. Rotarian Deboraha was meeting Chair and led the festivities. We had lots of fun trying to answer trivia questions. There was a lot of competition! The winning team was made up of Wisdom, Dittie, Marlvis, Marlvis's two children. Congratulations to the Team!
We also hosted representatives from Sheridan College that evening. Kam Bhangu, Senior Development Officer in the Advancement and External Relations department and Ravinder Rai, a first-year Nursing student at Sheridan joined us. Ravinder is the recipient of the Willard and Sandra Burton Bursary for its inaugural year. Ravinder and Sandra got to meet in person. We got to know Ravinder a bit when she spoke to the Club and expressed her gratitude for the bursary and shared what it meant to her. It was a beautiful moment.
On Monday March 24th, 2025, Rotarians Rita Gayle, Luisa Mocon-Santos and Rose Chojnacki delivered a presentation entitled Peace Conference Workshop: The Art of Listening. They asked us to Watch, Listen and Engage, making their presentation very interactive. It was a great meeting where we learned about and from each other.
On March 31st, 2025, we had presentations from the three Board of Director nominees. Each nominee had a few minutes to explain what they bring to the role and the objectives they hope to achieve as a Director.
Erene Hall, Nithy Madhana Kumar and John Sanderson will join the Board of Directors for the July 1st, 2025 to June 30th, 2027 term. Congratulations to all!
On Monday April 7th, 2025, the Rotary Club of Brampton joined the other four Brampton clubs for a Cluster Dinner event. The food and the presentations were excellent. We heard from the Heart Lake Turtle Troopers, an organization dedicated to the protection and monitoring of the local turtle population. We also heard updates from each of the Club Presidents of the five clubs in Brampton.
On Monday April 14, 2025, the Rotary Club of Brampton hosted Sheffanessea Brown who is no stranger to the Club. Sheffanessea is an advocate creating awareness of parental alienation in our society. She is an entrepreneur and works to demonstrate the link between parental alienation and domestic violence and child abuse. Following the kidnapping of her son Neel, she started a non profit organization called against parental alienation which focuses on educating the general public about the impact parental alienation has on the community and the world. Spoke to the club about the annual parental alienation awareness flag raising at Brampton City Hall on April 25th and in communities across Canada to encourage equal parenting rights for fit, safe, loving parents and to encourage parents to put their children before their anger.
We were also thrilled to present a $6,000 cheque to Rapport Youth and Family Services following our successful fundraising at the Black History Month Celebration Event. Rotarians Rita and Luisa presented the cheque to Rapport executive and staff members.
On Friday April 25, 2025, Rotarian Rita and her sister Karen along with VP Suzanne attended the End Parental Alientation Flag Raising event at Brampton City Hall.
On April 28th, 2025, we welcomed guest speaker Sunil Sharma, who is Past President of the RC of Brampton South, Rotary District 7080 Vocational Services Chair 2021-25 and Rotary Means Business Chair 2024-25. He presented his speech entitled "Rotary Means Business".
The Rotary Club of Brampton meets Mondays from 12 noon to 1:30 pm EST and from 6 to 7:30 pm EST the third Monday of the month. Each week, we have exciting speakers on our agenda. We would love for you to come out and join us to get a taste of the Rotary experience.
