International Women's Day Celebration

The Rotary Club of Brampton recognized International Women's Day on March 4th, 2024 and all genders were welcome to celebrate with us.

Rotarian Suzanne Cook shared the history of IWD. The RCB marked IWD with two amazing speakers. Both Michelle John, First Black Female Fire Staff in Brampton, and Rotarian Staceyann Brooks, Realtor/Business Woman, presented their personal journeys.

Miehelle's presentation was entitled Inspiring Women For Inclusion. Michelle shared some of the challenges she faced to advance in her career. Staceyann's presentation was entitled was What An Inspired Woman Can Do. She discussed what she has overcome to create her life in Canada and pursue several vocations. Their stories were very moving, as was hearing the impact these two women have had, and will continue to have, within society.

It was an incredible meeting! Happy International Women's Day, Everyone!

Boston Scientific: Impact

On March 11th 2024, the RCB was excited to welcome Ken Spears, VP and General Manager at Boston Scientific and hear about the local and global impact of the organization. Ken shared several stories about Boston Scientific and their innovative medical devices. He described their core organizational values and explained why the company headquarters was relocated to Brampton.

At Boston Scientific, they believe that Everyone Makes an Impact and this occurs through 'connection'. Ken highlighted this by describing company culture as well as telling us three patient success stories to demonstrate how Boston Scientific is transforming lives. Ken further explained how the organization annually brings patient stories to employees, highlighting a patient's day and daily experiences. Therefore, employees are better able to understand patient needs. This strengthens connections and enables the organization to save and improve lives and do innovative and meaningful work.

By describing the stories of three patients trying to manage illnesses such as stroke and Parkinson's Disease, Ken shared three innovative medical devices that are transforming lives. Many club members had questions and it was a very enlightening and moving presentation for all in attendance.
Carl Alphonse's Classification Talk

On March 25th, 2024, the Club was thrilled that new member Carl Alphonse gave his Classification Talk. Carl shared his journey coming to Canada with his parents and three siblings. He described his university studies and his decision to study immigration law. He also talked about relocating with his family and opening his own law practice in Brampton.

We enjoyed hearing his story which demonstrated his perseverance and hard work to reach his goals. Again, welcome, Carl, and congratulations on a well done Classification Talk!

Message From RCB Bingo Committee

Dear Members,

Funds raised through Delta Bingo’s Charitable partnership with the Rotary Club of Brampton allows us to make donations to various organizations such as the food banks where the need is the greatest and projects within the community which have been approved for funding by the City.

Some of the organizations who have been supported by funds sourced from the Bingo Account include Regeneration Outreach Community-Food bank, Ste Louise Outreach, Knights Table, ErinoakKids, Bethell Hospice and Salvation Army to name a few, all made possible by the on-going generous financial support received from Delta Bingo and Gaming and our faithful volunteers who serve every second Tuesday each month.

Our “Trained” Bingo volunteers include: Willard and Sandra Burton, Rose Chojnacki, Amolak Dhindsa, Rita Gayle, Al Heaney, Jim Inglis, Vijay Kotamarti, Nithy Kumar, Luisa Mocon, Uche Okugo, Isaiah Owolabi, Deboraha and Brian Robinson, Mike Shree, and Vanora and Ken Spreen.

If you wish to join our team and become involved in this vital and important fundraising effort at the Club level, we encourage you to reach out to Sandra Burton who will be pleased to provide you with the necessary information on becoming a volunteer.

Yours In Rotary,
Sandra Burton
