Weekly Meeting Invitation (October 3rd, 2022)

Good Monday to all KGMers!

Hope you had a good long weekend. September has been quite a month, quarantine has been lifted after 2+ years, UK got a King, and the stock markets and currencies have gone nuts. If you are looking to buy cheap luxury goods, now would be a good time. KGM has had an eventful September as well. We added 4 new members and introduced a few more potential members to our club. At the rate we are moving, we will be at 100 members way before the rotary year ends.

We are having our Annual Handbag Auction on November 2nd, please RSVP before October 26th, details enclosed with this email. You may click here to RSVP.

The Annual Fund Raising Ball has been fixed for 4th March, 2023, kindly save the date. More on this will be announced soon.

Rotary's Investments

Ever wondered where all the donations are resting while waiting to be used? This is an interesting article explaining how funds are invested to generate income. For the full article please visit https://www.rotary.org/en/rotary-investments

Investments are critical to the sustainability of Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
The Office of Investment is responsible for managing Rotary’s investments according to policies set by The Rotary Foundation’s Trustees and Rotary International’s Board of Directors. Through a commitment to stewardship and excellence, we seek to establish a legacy that distinguishes Rotary as a prudent investor, supports Rotary's objectives, and promotes sustainability.

Rotary International holds a portfolio to ensure that Rotary is financially stable and can cover its obligations in unforeseen circumstances.
These funds are invested in a conservative strategy that emphasizes liquidity and income over capital appreciation.
The Rotary International portfolio is 91% invested in fixed income assets and 9% in real estate.
The Rotary International portfolio earned 3.3 percent in fiscal 2021.
Over the past five years, the Rotary International portfolio generated an average rate of return of 4.6%. The rate of return is the total realized and unrealized capital gains, and interest and dividend income.

Food for Thought (HEALTHY CHOICES):
PLANT BASED DIET

What is a plant-based diet?

“Plant-based” is a fairly broad term often used to describe variations of a vegetarian diet. It may mean a vegan diet that excludes all animal products, a diet made mostly of plants with small amounts of animal products like cheese or fish, or anywhere in between.
Regardless, a plant-based diet generally emphasizes whole plant foods like fruits, vegetables, grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds.
Of course, semantics aren’t the point. What matters most is understanding the reasons why more people are adopting plant-based diets — and having conversations about those reasons.
In addition to saving animals and helping reduce many of the current stresses on the environment, a plant-based diet can do wonders for long-term health.
Plenty of evidence shows that eating a predominantly whole-foods, plant-based diet supports healthy weight loss, protects brain health, boosts immunity, and reduces inflammation.
This diet may also promote digestive and reproductive health, lengthen your lifespan, and reduce your risk of chronic diseases like diabetes, heart disease, and illnesses.

*NOTE* This is only for reference, please make sure to contact your physician or dietician before making any drastic changes to your diet.
