Facial Aging and the Eyelids: Perspectives from an Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr. Marcus MARCET - Specialist in Ophthalmology

Dr. Marcus Marcet is an eye surgeon with a focus on ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery and the eyelids in particular. The field is also known as oculoplastic surgery. His practice is based at the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital’s Pacific Place and Happy Valley locations.

Dr. Marcet is from the US. After graduating from medical school at the University of South Florida in 2000, he did internship training in New York City. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Tufts University – New England Medical Center. He went on to do fellowship training in eye pathology in Wisconsin. He then completed a 2-year dedicated oculoplastics fellowship sponsored by the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University.

After training, Dr. Marcet worked as an Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago Medical Center from 2007-2010. From 2010-2016, he worked as a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong and provided clinical care at Queen Mary Hospital. In 2016, he achieved the qualification of Licentiate of the Medical Council of Hong Kong by passing the examinations for overseas doctors on the first attempt. Dr. Marcet was subsequently invited to join the Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, becoming the hospital’s first full time western doctor in its 95-year history.

Dr. Marcet has a passion for research and education. He continues to teach as an Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor at HKU and CUHK. He also serves as an Honorary Clinical Assistant Professor in HKU’s Medical Ethics and Humanities Unit. He has authored 26 peer review journal publications, written 4 book chapters, and co-authored 1 book on ophthalmology. Dr. Marcet is the Editor-in-Chief of the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO) medical wiki, known as EyeWiki. He also serves as Chairman of the AAO’s International Meetings Committee.
