TAIERI CLUB FOURWHEEL DRIVE TOUR.
HAVE A GREAT DAY OUT AND MEET SOME NEW FRIENDS.
On Saturday the 23rd of February Taieri Rotary members are meeting at the Outram Rugby club at 9.00 am ready for an excursion into the greater Waipori area.
The route will be Outram-Berwick-Waipori Falls- Waipori power scheme- Lake Mahinerangi-Thornicroft Station, including Wind Farm. Any vehicle with fourwheel drive capacity should be OK, it is not intending to go off road.
It is intended to inspect the Power stations, and also get an insight into the operation of one of Otago's large sheep and beef farms managed by Lindsay Cunningham, Yvonne's husband.
There is a charge of $45.00 per vehicle and lunch will be available for $10.00 per head and will need to be ordered. Providing the lunches is a fund raising effort by the local Parkinson's Society.
Numbers attending and lunches wanted, will need to be advised to Ross Bathgate 489 1480 or emailed to <rsbathgate@gmail.com> by 18th Feb.
NOTE TO MEMBERS INTERESTED IN GOING ON THE TRIP: - PLEASE MEET AFTER ROTARY ON MONDAY NIGHT TO CONSOLIDATE CAR LOADS AND WE CAN THEN RING THE DETAILS TO ROSS BATHGATE ON MONDAY NIGHT TO CONFIRM NUMBERS AND LUNCHES ORDERED.

WAIRONGOA SPRINGS
OUR VISIT TO THE SPRINGS.
It is interesting that so many members who have lived here all their lives had never been to see where the famous Wairongoa springs and their fizzie water bubbled forth. The forest that surrounds them is magnificent.
We thank Austen for showing  us this wonderful place before he leaves his home  of many years, and enjoyed reading the story in the ODT last week. Colin took a number of photos to record the occasion of our visit.

:photo one: - All ready to go!
photo two: - On our way to the forest and the springs.
photo three: - Austen convinced us it's ok to drink the water
photo four: - We all join in.
A RUN-A-WAY SUCCESS

A "RUN-A-WAY" SUCCESS
True Community in action- Thank-you.
 RUN-THE-RUNWAY- 2019 "over and out-rodger"

Great how Rotary, Dunedin Airport, Taieri Community Facilities Trust, MTF Finance Dunedin South, local businesses and volunteers all joined forces to make Run the Runway a great day out. Mother nature added her support by putting on a fantastic starry sky, new moon and pink sky as dawn broke over Saddle Hill.
Wow! What a lot of fun Run the runway was this year. All the new systems we had in place after last year's "sail by the set of your pants" event, worked beautifully.
We had responded to feedback to tweak things here and there. Add to that mix some children to get involved, an enthusiastic CEO of Dunedin Airport on electric scooter and it was all spot on.
We had help from many quarters. Our own members and their partners stepped up, we had people in the community and friends of Rotary all helping out too.
Irene, Fraser and the team who put this together, really appreciated your help.
Ticket sales got off to a slow start which was a bit of a concern a week ago, but that worry was all forgotten as around 130 people converged on the registration tent to pick up their race number.
AMI supported us with spot prizes and Harraways provided their new "Harros," a spicy wee snack for all who took part.
Big thank you to Pauline and Alan Blomfield who stepped in with their event expertise to provide marquee and guide flags for registration.
This was a great example of community in action.
Winner, James Pemberton, is a Cardiologist from Dunedin. James took 2nd place  last year, so was thrilled to take out the new Dunedin Airport trophy in 2019 with a time just over 15 minutes.
Looks like Run the runway is now locked in as a regular event and a way for us to continue to support Taieri based organisations.
Roll on 2020...... we might see a Lime Scooter section added next year, who knows??

Two golfing buddies were on the course, When one went to retrieve his ball from a nearby pond, a frog appeared on a lily pad and said, "If you'll bend over just a little bit further and give me a kill, I'll turn into a beautiful princess" At that the duffer bent over, picked up the frog.. and put it in his pocket. Surprised, his partner asked why he had pocketed the amphibian.  "At my age. I'd rather have a talking frog" his friend answered.

"I had a terrible day at the office." the husband told his wife. "I don't want to hear any problems, Talk to me only good news."
"well." she said " As you know we have six children. the good news is five of them did not break their arms today!"
