RUN-THE-RUNWAY- 2019 "over and out-rodger"
Great how Rotary, Dunedin Airport, Taieri Community Facilities Trust, MTF Finance Dunedin South, local businesses and volunteers all joined forces to make Run the Runway a great day out. Mother nature added her support by putting on a fantastic starry sky, new moon and pink sky as dawn broke over Saddle Hill.
Wow! What a lot of fun Run the runway was this year. All the new systems we had in place after last year's "sail by the set of your pants" event, worked beautifully.
We had responded to feedback to tweak things here and there. Add to that mix some children to get involved, an enthusiastic CEO of Dunedin Airport on electric scooter and it was all spot on.
We had help from many quarters. Our own members and their partners stepped up, we had people in the community and friends of Rotary all helping out too.
Irene, Fraser and the team who put this together, really appreciated your help.
Ticket sales got off to a slow start which was a bit of a concern a week ago, but that worry was all forgotten as around 130 people converged on the registration tent to pick up their race number.
AMI supported us with spot prizes and Harraways provided their new "Harros," a spicy wee snack for all who took part.
Big thank you to Pauline and Alan Blomfield who stepped in with their event expertise to provide marquee and guide flags for registration.
This was a great example of community in action.
Winner, James Pemberton, is a Cardiologist from Dunedin. James took 2nd place last year, so was thrilled to take out the new Dunedin Airport trophy in 2019 with a time just over 15 minutes.
Looks like Run the runway is now locked in as a regular event and a way for us to continue to support Taieri based organisations.
Roll on 2020...... we might see a Lime Scooter section added next year, who knows??
