Stories
Opening and Sgt at Arms Report
President Linda opened the meeting. Roger said the Four Way test for the second week in a row and the invocation was by Todd also for the second week in a row.
Chad informed us that we had 19 members and one guest, our speaker Dr. John Schaman
Health and Good Cheer
All was right in the world this week.  No more health and good cheer needed.
50-50 Draw
Kim ran the 50/50 again this week.  Larry and Katie both lost.  I didn't see the cards but heard the gasps from the crowd.  They must have been close, but as the saying goes, "close" only counts in horseshoes, hand grenades, and stepping in dog ____ .

Good News
Roger invited everyone to a beer tasting event at Grand River Brewing on Wednesday (Sept. 19)  5pm to 7:30pm.
Jim J is taking market share from his major U.S. competitor.
Todd set a personal best time running 8km on the rail trail.
Jokester
Jokester Paul explained how small typos can make a big difference in a marriage contract.
Announcements and Upcoming Events
On behalf of Erica, Pres Linda thanked everyone who helped make Best Bites a great success this year.  Special recognition went to John and Roseanne Jonas and also Caitlin, who all put in a great amount of time over the weekend.

*** Katie reminded us that our next fundraiser (and last one before the winter break) is Thanksgiving Roses.  100 dozen sold so far, 900 dozen to go.  Let's really turn our attention to this and encourage staff and customer recognition.  Volume discounts are available for one more week.  In two more weeks we'll be delivering.

Rena announced that we will be serving dinner at Lang's Community Centre on Tuesday, Oct.16.  Volunteers are needed on Oct.15 and 16 from 9am to noon for food prep, then on Oct.16 from 4:40 to 7pm to serve dinner and clean up.  Contact Rena with your availability.
Rena is also collecting winter clothes for Langs clients.  Bring in gently used clothing (especially for boys) and Rena will deliver it.
Chad needs three presenters for our high school vocational awards on the evenings of Oct.5, 12, and 26.  Let him know if you can represent us.  No speeches required, just a handshake.

Program
Marcia introduced Dr. John Schaman, who runs the world renowned Cardiac Fitness Centre in Breslau.
John has made it his life's work to bring people back from the brink after a serious cardiac event.  He explained that heart disease is a disease of choice, that we can choose a lifestyle to minimize the risk, and even reverse damage after a serious event.  But it's not easy.
John shared a lot of facts with us.  Two points that interested me: 1. Since 1978 his centre has treated over 45,000 patients, 2. A typical patient that follows the heart health program will roll back his/her metabolic age by about 25 years.  If you want more info, check out his websites at http://www.cfaheart.com/ and http://www.jschaman.com/
His most recent project:  working on improved lung function (which normally declines by 50% from age 30 to 70).  He has designed a special medical harmonica for the purpose of exercising the lungs.
Dr. Tom, who went to medical school with John, gave his thanks and asked for the advice short form.  I won't repeat it here because we all know it already.
