Don Fanstone was here today to give his last prognostication address. His first introduction to Rotary was in 1974 but it took until 1977 for him to join. . I am not sure when he started doing this but I think it was late 80's . Don is a hard act to follow as he is a very eloquent speaker.
John Jonas won the prize for most accurate predictions 19 points out of 36.
Paul Codi won $85 for guessing a little on the high side for the TSX . TSX closed around 17063 and he guessed 17000.
President Chad thanked Don for his efforts over the year.
President Elect Elect Roger Mann ( this assumes President Elect Heidi doesn't stay for a second term . She has always struck me as having a thirst for power but I digress. ) did the rest of the Prognostication address.
Roger changed the format. He gave an economic review for the year.. Markets were influenced by Trade negotiations , impeachment hearings, Global trade, flat earnings, and Geo political risks. BOC rate for the year ended at 1.75% with not much thought of it going higher.
2020 is the year of the RAT.. The theme from economists from the major banks is the US markets will stay strong, Interest rates will remain low, CDN financials will do better , tech stocks will lead and the longest expansion will carry on for one more year.. No recession this year.
Rogers gave out 5 bottles of wine for those who paid attention to his address. I f you were lucky enough to be chosen you won a bottle of wine. The odds were pretty good with only 13 members. Sadly I lost both cards to Jarrod and wine to mostly Codi's table and Tom Everett.
There were a few questions but mostly get a financial Plan with an advisor and Invest according to your time horizon and risk profile. ( risk profile is how much pain can you take before bailing out. )
Editor Matt thanked Roger for his address.
President Chad gave the official thanks.
