Chair Announcements: Photography has long been an interest of Iains dating back to age 11 when he borrowed his sister's camera with 12 black and white images on a spool. He photographed the buildings and streets in the town which are now no longer there. “I was capturing a catalogue for future generations.” The Rotary Magazine has just published Vision Quest: Rotary Magazine's 2024 Photo Awards judged by a panel of photographers. 
Winner - Photographer: Keith Marsh Rotary E-Club of Silicon Valley, California The Milky Way dazzles above Palouse Falls in eastern Washington state. The faint trails of three meteors appear in the upper center part of the image. The Palouse River carved this canyon more than 13,000 years ago, leaving behind a narrow cataract through which rushing water drops 200 feet. A judge says "I love to shoot the night sky myself, and I know this shot is difficult from many perspectives. The meteors make it even more special" — Tami Phillippi

Photographer: Joshua Uwagboi Rotaract Club of Abuja Wuse II, Nigeria Volunteer Ruth Ameh and members of the Rotaract Club of Abuja Wuse II educate students about menstruation at a school in Nigeria’s capital. Their primary audience was not girls but boys. The initiative is reshaping boys’ perceptions and behavior toward female classmates and fostering empathy. Judges say: The woman’s expression is captivating. That is what attracted me most and that she is educating students on menstruation to build empathy among the boys. — Madhumita Bishnu Lobsterfest: What a fabulous day Charleswood Rotary had. So many volunteers showed up and what a successful day we had. Jim will fill us all in on the numbers how well we did. Iain did want to mention a few people, Pedro and Olga. Being new members they both put in enormous effort and it helped tremendously. Also Tracy Thompson handling the DJ duties. He did not see her sitting down and always had a smile during the long day. Of course a thank you to Jim and his family for working so hard to make it happen and not letting up till the end. We had volunteers who were not members neighbour Susan and the Oak Park boys who were amazing running back and forth completing the orders. Nancy Hansen: Informs us that the latest tabs for wheelchairs dropped off at Eira and Martin's by a School nearby. Nancy says the school kids are avid tab collectors and they have done a fantastic job! Apparently, there's more coming. Small things make a difference Ukrainian Project: Mandy thanked everyone for their continued support of Bridge of Hope Ukraine project. The project has now helped 303 families, with a wait list of 100. There will now be a break for the summer, but urgent circumstances can be addressed case by case. At the last shopping / delivery day, there was a truckload of beds/ box springs donated with no obvious storage space. With the ingenuity of volunteers, they were moved to the storage unit. The summer break is well deserved, but some will miss the social interaction. The current inventory of furniture / household items will fill the need when we begin again in September. New donations are not required at this time. Thanks to Mandy for all she does to manage this critically important project. Father’s Day - In Canada, Father's Day has been celebrated since the early 20th century. Unlike the USA, Canada has never made Father's Day a public holiday. This is most likely due to the fact that it always falls on a Sunday. Before we go to dinner…In Honour of Father’s Day. Why do dads never iron their 4 leaf clover? They don't want to press their luck. And....I accused my wife of putting glue on my antique gun collection. She denies it but I'm sticking to my guns |
